“It is a morgue not a ritualist den as claimed by the police” – Edo Civil Society clears the air on building where mummified corpse were found
The Edo Civil Society have disputed claims that the building where mummified corpse were found in the state is a ritualist den.
News spread like wildfire on Wednesday, August 17, that men of the Edo State Police Command have uncovered a ritualist den with 20 mummified corpses in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, in a statement, said the suspected ritualist den was uncovered along Asoro slope, off Ekenhuan road, in Uzebu quarters.
Following internal investigation, the Edo civil society groups have refuted the report, stating that it’s a morgue, not a ritualist den as claimed by the police.
In a statement released by its Interim Chairman, Leftist Austine Enabulele, he said the building was newly built to accommodate the corpses after the operator was served quit notice from his former facility.
He added that there were name tags on some of the corpses and medical equipment’s were also found in the facility and it should have been a pointer that the place is not a ritualist den, but a morgue.

“It has been over 24 hours that the news of a ritualists’ den was discovered in Benin City allegedly. It has flooded the social media and mainstream media spaces making it viral. The news became worrisome to us as Edo people have no history of ritualism or its likes. More troublesome to us is the fact that, it was the Police Public Relations Officer of Edo state command that led a media report on same which would have suggested that proper investigation would have been carried out to arrive at what was reported in the media.
“Immediately the news got to us, we quickly dispatched a team of investigators to unravel the true situation of the matter and report accordingly for a follow up. Below were the findings of the investigation team.
“1. The said building where the mummified corpses were found is not a ritualists’ den but a newly built morgue to house evacuated corpses from an old facility because the operator had been given a quit notice there.
“2. The operational name of the morgue is St. Gabriel Funeral Home with other offices at No. 24, Ist Federal Road, Benin City. It has branches in Anambra state, Ebonyi state, Murtala Mohammed way and Ist East Circular road where the corpses were moved from.
“3. The shrine discovered was said to be a traditional form of worship by the proprietor as a spiritual protection for himself and the business.
“4. The police didn’t conduct investigation before addressing the media thereby raising an alarm of a ritualists’ shrine.
“5. As at the time of putting this report together, the police had not visited other branches of the morgue in different parts of the city.
“6. The videos of corpses in circulation revealed that some of the corpses had name tags and medical equipment were visible as well in the building. Further interview with one of the morgue personnel in another of their branch office revealed that there is a register of all the corpses in the facility and that some of the owners have started to call to take away their deposited corpses.
“7. Our team of investigators were denied access to the morgue by members of the vigilance group that have been stationed there.
“Flowing from the above, it is now convenient to state that, the insinuation by the police that it is a ritualists’ den is hereby debunked and dismissed as false alarm and an attempt to paint the good people of Edo in bad light. This is not to state that, the morgue might not be an illegal one or does not have the requisite permits to operate a morgue which should be subjected to thorough investigation by the police.
Lady hospitalised after being raped by taxi driver in Rivers state
A 21-year-old girl has narrated how she was abducted and raped by a taxi driver along the Obiri-Kwerre Airport Road in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to the young lady (name withheld), she boarded a taxi heading to Rukpokwu while returning from work around 10pm on Monday, August 15.
Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, the victim said half way through the journey, the driver brought out a knife to threaten her.
The victim said she was later admitted to a government facility for treatment after the incident.
“He just came and said, ‘Where are you going?’ I said I was going to Rukpokwu (near Port Harcourt). He said okay, and asked me to enter. So, he drove down and wound up the glass. He showed me a knife and a gun and asked me to keep quiet. He said he had killed a woman already because the woman shouted.
He was like he was going to kill me, that the only way he was going to save me was to sleep with me. So, when we got to a lonely and dark place, he stopped and slept with me. Then, just a few meters from that place, he stopped the car and said I should go out.” She said.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, sympathized with the victim and advised her to report the incident to the police.
Dubai-based Nigerians call on the government for help following mass deportation in Dubai (video)
Some Nigerian citizens based in Dubai have called on the Nigerian government for help after they were deported from the United Arab Emirates.
Several videos showing those affected by the mass deportation exercise and their luggage are currently making rounds on the internet.
A Nigerian lady, who spoke in one of the videos, expressed her displeasure with the Nigerian embassy in Dubai for failing to represent Nigerian citizens in the process.
She then asked if there’s a functional embassy or active ambassador in the country because they are yet to see anyone.
She further revealed that some deported Nigerians who had valid international passports were granted a pass by Dubai authorities and are waiting for airplanes to bring them back to Nigeria.
However, those without a valid passport, are still waiting for a temporary pass from the Nigerian embassy who seems not to be working.

Photos of people who allegedly participated in a violent protest in the West African country last week, were released by the local police recently.
Quite surprisingly, among the people who were featured in the photos was late Nigerian rapper, Dagrin with a gun hung around his neck.
A Twitter user @Jeen_Yous who resides in Sierra Leone, shared the poster on the micro-blogging platform. The user wrote,
”The Sierra Leone Police release Pictures of wanted people who were part of the violence protest last week and late Nigerian rapper Dagrin is one of them.
This country will always amaze me,”
The late Dagrin died from complications arising from injuries he sustained in a ghastly motor accident when he ran into a stationary truck around 3am at Mushin in Lagos.
He died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH on Wednesday, April 22, 2010.

Nigerian pastor and his wife welcome a baby after 13 years of waiting
A South Africa-based Nigerian pastor, Paul Martins, and his wife, Funmi Martins, have welcomed a baby girl after thirteen years of waiting.
The couple, who have been married for thirteen years and have been waiting for the fruit of the womb, recently welcomed their first child, a baby girl.
Friends, colleagues, family, and church members of the couple shared the good news on Facebook as they congratulated them.
Sharing photos of the couple cradling their newborn, a Facebook user wrote,
“Congratulations to Pastors Paul and Pastor Funmi Martins on the delivery of a bouncing Baby Girl. After 13 years of waiting on God with diligence and God did not fail. A Twitter user has taken to the micro-blogging platform to share a video of the meal he was charged N2,000 for at a hotel in Lagos state.
@itsTomiwa ordered a plate of fried plantain and fried eggs, which cost N2,000 on the menu, but was surprised when the food was delivered to his hotel room. In the plate, there were seven slices of dodo arranged round the fried eggs.
Tomiwa, who found the quantity of food laughable, took to Twitter to share a video showing him counting the pieces of plantain he was served.

Toke Makinwa’s marriage to her estranged husband Maje Ayida was dissolved by an Igbosere High Court in 2017.
Toke had filed for divorce on March 9, 2016 on the grounds that Maje committed adultery.
Justice Morenike Obadina, while delivering judgment held that Ayida filed an answer to the petition but did not give oral evidence in support of it.
She said the position of the law was settled as pleadings did not amount to evidence.
“Pleadings on which no evidence was led are deemed abandoned. Therefore, Ayida’s evidence is deemed abandoned. The effect being that the petitioner’s evidence is unchallenged and uncontroverted,’’ she ruled.

Erica was being driven to the airport in her Range Rover when she realized she was running late and might miss her flight so she decided to take a faster means of transportation – a motorcycle.
She took to her Instastory to share a video showing the moment she was boarding the bike with her luggage and she seemed super excited to take a bike as she was heard talking excitedly in the background.
The 28-year-old reality show star also shared a video of herself while being driven on the motorcycle, and another video showing her on the flight after arriving at the airport. She is seen at the cockpit of the plane with two pilots.
Shortly after, she took to Twitter to disclose that the bike rider initially charged her N20,000 for the ride, possibly because of the exotic ride she alighted from, and she had to negotiate for a lesser price.

Man identifies his late mother’s corpse among the 20 mummified bodies found in Edo ritualist den
There was pandemonium at the recently discovered ritualist den in Benin, Edo state, on Thursday, August 18, when a man identified one of the 20 mummified corpses at the scene as his mother’s corpse.
It would be recalled that operatives of the Edo State Police Command uncovered a ritualist den with 20 mummified corpses in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Wednesday, August 17.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, in a statement, said the suspected ritualist den was uncovered along Asoro slope, off Ekenhuan road, in Uzebu quarters. Read here.
Speaking with journalists at the scene on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, SP, Chidi Nwabuzor, said the man identified as Osaro Nappiar, told the police that he deposited his late mother’s corpse at a mortuary run by one Chukwu Otu as he was looking for funds for a befitting burial.
“The man clarified that the owner of the place who is on the run (Otu) was operating somewhere at 1st East Circular Road, Benin City where his mother’s corpse was deposited.” Nwabuzor said.
Nwabuzor said Nappiar told the police that his mother died at a hospital at Uselu last year so he took the corpse to Otu’s because he had no money for the burial.
Nappiar said when he raised the money, he went to the place but was told Otu had relocated to Ekenwan road, Asoro area, and when he got there, they asked him to produce evidence of the corpse deposited there, but he was not with a card earlier given to him.
“As he was unable to produce the card, they asked him to come on another day and that was why he came down here. He has produced the card and that card is now with the police”, he said.
Nwabuzor said four suspects who were arrested have been helping the police in their investigation.
Meanwhile, one of the suspects, Gideon Friday, denied any involvement in the alleged ritualistic act. He claimed he was at the scene to check if his application for the position of a driver had been granted.
In his words,
“So when I got there to ask for the director, some community people came and started beating me without listening to my story and later took me to the station.”

Stray bullet kills young lady during soldiers and gunmen shootout in Abia community (Video)
A stray bullet killed a young lady who has been identified as Chinenye Ajunwa in Ebem Ohafia, at the headquarter of Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia.
It’s reported that Chinenye died from a stray bullet during the gun duel between soldiers and hoodlums in the community on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.
The deceased said to be from Amuta in Isuikwuato local government area resident in Ohafia, owned a shop in the community. According to a report by The Nation, the lady, who was with her father during the gun duel, died before help could come her way.

Self-acclaimed life coach, Solomon Buchi has deactivated his verified social media accounts after being called out for being a ‘serial beggar’ online.
Solomon has been in the news lately for negative reasons. Few weeks ago, he was heavily criticized by both Nigerians and foreigners for saying his fiancée, Arike, is not the most beautiful or intelligent woman.
Most recently, he was lampooned for advising men to stop dating broke women because they won’t help them grow but drain them.
Following which several women dug up chats showing Solomon begging for money and material things from them years ago.
He was also dragged for allegedly soliciting for funds for his forthcoming wedding to his fiancée, and many advised her to dump him because he’s allegedly not a good match for her.
Well, it might seem as though the heat has been too much for Solomon as he has now deactivated his Instagram and Twitter accounts.
A quick search for his name on these platforms shows that he has taken down his accounts. However, it’s not clear if he deactivated his accounts temporarily or deleted them permanently.

The exotic dancer, in a recent chat with Deji, disclosed that her father was poisoned to death and her mother abandoned her as a child.
According to Chichi, she never experienced motherly love as she was abandoned by her mother as a baby and was raised by her father until his untimely death.
Narrating the event to Deji, Chichi said she doesn’t like to talk about that part of her life as it makes her quite emotional.
However, giving further details into Chichi’s life in an Instagram post following the revelation, her handler wrote,
“A story she always struggles to share cause it opens up old wounds that never fully heals. She doesn’t talk about this part of her life, but this girl right before you is an orphan and an only child, she never got the chance to know what it feels to have a mom. Phyna and Groovy, who was previously in a relationship with a disqualified housemate, Beauty, became an item only a few days after Beauty’s exit from the house.
Recall that Beauty was disqualified following an altercation with Groovy for dancing with another lady without her permission during a Saturday night party.
Well, earlier today, Phyna, while speaking about her affair with Groovy in a conversation with Daniella, said she feels netizens will be dragging her on social media for being involved with a man who was formerly dating another housemate.
She, however, quickly noted that she doesn’t care about what people think about her relationship with Groovy.
“I feel like am being dragged outside the houe because of this groovy and beauty ship, but I don’t care, I no Kuku attend any marriage or introduction”, she said.
In other news, recently evicted housemate, Ilebaye has voted Phyna most likely to win the seventh edition of the Big Brother Naija reality show if she doesn’t get distracted by her love interest, Groovy.
Ilebaye, who was evicted on Sunday, September 11, along with Khalid, had an interview with Classic FM and was asked who she thinks would win the N100 million grand prize.

The singer, who is currently on a world tour, took to his Twitter handle this morning to show off his mansion in Atlanta.
He shared a video flaunting the interior of the exquisite building and captioned it,

The post apparently didn’t sit well with some tweeps who trooped to the comment to berate him. Trolls compared him to corrupt politicians who use tax payers’ money to buy properties abroad.

Adeleye Akingbaso, the Ekiti-based Prophet who raped a 13-year-old girl and threatened her with madness if she tells anyone, has revealed why he carried out the dastardly act.
It was earlier reported that the man was arrested by men of the Ekiti State Police Command after being accused of defiling the minor when her mother was not at home.
He was thereafter arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, where the presiding judge ordered that he should be remanded in prison till the next court hearing.
The Spokeperson of the command, DSP Abutu Sunday, has in a statement on Thursday, August 18, said Prophet Akingbaso claimed he wanted to conduct spiritual deliverance on the little girl before unlawfully having carnal knowledge of her.
The statement reads in part,
“Investigation revealed that the suspect, on noticing that the victim’s mother had left home for a vigil in the Church, sneaked into their room and committed the act, claiming that he intended to spiritually deliver the victim. He further promised to attack her spiritually if she informs her mother.
“The suspect initially absconded after committing the offence but was later arrested by the Police. During interrogation, he confessed to the commission of the crime and was arraigned accordingly.”

A Nigerian lady has shared her frightening experience after inserting a ball of cotton wool in her private part before having coitus with her boyfriend.
In a video shared online, the lady narrated how her boyfriend invited her to spend the weekend at his house because they had not seen in two weeks.
She said while she was in transit to his house, she felt something wet come out of her private part and thought her menstrual period had started.
However, when she got to his house, she went to the toilet to check herself but it was not her period.
To be on the safer side before she and her boyfriend get down to business, she decided to insert a ball of cotton wool into her private part incase her period starts while they are having sex.
She said she called her female friend to ask for the procedure which she followed and then, she proceeded to have sex with her boyfriend.
Her dilemma started when she couldn’t remove the cotton wool from her private part after having coitus.
According to her, she squatted in the bathroom for over thirty minutes trying to remove it but it didn’t come out. She also inserted a toothbrush into her vj in an attempt to remove it but it still did not bulge.
She said she finally succeeded in removing the cotton wool after one hour but she didn’t want to go into details about how she removed it.
The young lady, who said she was terrified and thought she was going to be hospitalized because of the cotton wool, warned ladies not to try it but told gutsy ladies to do it if they want to.

The youngsters, famous for recreating scenes from music videos and top movies, made an impressive recreation of Idris Elba’s new movie, Beast.
The comic group recreated the movie’s trailer using interesting props that mirrored some of the scenes from the movie.
The actor was impressed by the creative piece as they showed him on a video call and he commended their talents.
While sharing the video on their Instagram page, Ikorodu Bois said it was a dream come true for them to speak with the award-winning thespian.

The little lads’ appearance on the New York Times Square’s billboard is courtesy of Netflix — the movie-production company that has a number of times, revealed how impressed they are with the young boys craft.
On the billboard was a short video collection of the boys while at work with their director, who is the elder brother to two members of the group.
