There was confusion in Odogunyan, Ikorodu area of Lagos State after an auxiliary nurse, identified only as Oyekanmi pulled off the hand of a baby while taking delivery.
The police have since arrested the suspect.
It was gathered that the victim’s mother, Adeola, was taken to Oyekanmi’s residence last Saturday when she went into labour.
Oyekanmi, while attempting to force the delivery, was said to have pulled off the baby’s hand.
The baby died when she was rushed to the Ikorodu general hospital, Punch reports.
The hospital management then alerted the police on the incident and the suspect was picked up by the police.
The source said, “What happened was that the auxiliary nurse tried to deliver the woman of the baby, during which there was a complication.
“But she continued and in the end, the hand of the baby was pulled off while she tried to force the child out from the mother’s womb.
“Afterwards, they quickly packed the woman together and brought her to the general hospital. It had become a critical case by then. The remains of the dead child were brought out, while the matter was reported to the police.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were ongoing.
She said, “The doctor at the hospital discovered that something was amiss after taking a close look at the dead child and seeing that one hand had been pulled off. All the parties were invited to make statements. It is a case of infanticide; investigations are ongoing.”

The creator of the Red Solo Cup, Robert Leo Hulseman, died at the age of 84 on Wednesday, December 21. He was surrounded by family when he passed away peacefully, according to his obituary.
Hulseman began working at his father’s business, Solo Cup Company, at the age of 18. He eventually became president and CEO and retired after 60 years in 2015.
The factory created cone-shaped paper cups in the 1940s. Hulseman was credited for inventing the Red Solo Cup in the 1970s.
“He was known as an innovator, a hands-on manufacturing expert, and an industry pioneer; many of the products he developed are ubiquitous today, including the Red Solo Cup and the Traveller Lid,” Hulseman’s obituary reads. “Throughout his life, Bob was a gentleman who demonstrated class at all turns and a great deal of trust in others.”
18 year old Godspower, popularly called Big Gospel was murdered by suspected cultist along Sapele road Benin City, Edo State.

A 61-year-old man, Timothy Onyeukwu, who allegedly camped a 10-year-old girl in a hotel for months and having canal knowledge of her at will, has been arrested in Abia State.
Onyeukwu was arrested following intelligence policing strategy of the state Police Command.
The suspect was paraded alongside a fake Nestle food manufacturer, armed robbery suspects, burglars and cultists, before newsmen on Wednesday.
Parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, Adeleye Oyebade, said the operatives of the Central Police Station Aba, swung into action and arrested the man.
He added that the victim had been taken to hospital for medical attention.
“The suspect confessed to have been sleeping with the little girl for months in the hotel,” the CP added, noting that the suspected rapist will be charged to court soon.

Inspiring story of Precious Ogechi,a Nigerian man from Port Harcourt who wrote JAMB 7 times.
He wrote;
‘My Story
After my secondary education, I decided to further my studies.
I wrote the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th JAMB exams and they were all cancelled. I decided to take the bull by the horn. I went to Enugu State University for a pre-degree program. On the completion of the program, I was offered a course in faculty of Science but the cultism in the institution as at then was unbearable for me, having being attacked twice.
I decided to use the 5th JAMB that was released to study at University of Port Harcourt. Then ASUU had a protracted strike that lasted for over six months, I needed to write a 6th JAMB and I scored 274 but that score couldn’t offer me admissions as the two JAMBS were combined because the strike entered another year. After the first 6yrs at home, WAEC too was cancelling my results and I wrote WAEC/NECO four times.
I was frustrated, mocked, criticized and called a failure. Some of my classmates were already youth Corpers. Many out of pity told me to quit because school wasn’t for me. The criticisms, mockery and name calling from people that didn’t know what I was passing through compounded my issues and I started thinking of quitting/suicide.
One evening, my brother in-law/mentor told me “Ogechi nobody can frustrate or determine the outcome of your life except you, don’t quit trying, you’ll be whatever you want to be” I repeated that to myself over a hundred times that night and I assumed the position of a CEO in my life.
I enrolled for another pre-degree program in University of Port Harcourt, and wrote the 7th JAMB and it was also canceled but thank God I passed the BASIC program. So to gain admissions to do a bachelors program, I wrote JAMB 7times, WAEC/NECO 4times and Pre-degree 2times.
However, when I finally entered University, I passed Rivers State government scholarship exams to study abroad but few weeks to departure, another government took over in 2007 and cancelled the scholarship. But I told myself I must study in Nigeria and abroad.
People called me a failure but, I don’t know if I am still a failure, if school is for me now or not, or if am still bewitched as people said..
All I can remember now is that I have done BSc in Nigeria, Masters in Safety and Environmental Management in UK, have seven additional professional certifications, qualified as a Chartered Environmentalist in UK and have worked both in Nigeria & Scotland.
I have learnt that setbacks are actually strongholds in disguise if we don’t quit trying.
I have learnt that persistence wears off every resistance.
I have also learnt as a Christian that if your faith says Yes, God won’t say No, only be DETERMINED.
I give God ALL the glory and shame to the devil’.

One of the leaders of a notorious militant group operating in Ikorodu and Arepo areas of Lagos and Ogun states, Abiodun Amos, said yesterday, that his group planned to bomb the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos because the Federal Government failed to consider its members for amnesty.
The group had planned to bomb the bridge end of last month before Amos’ arrest by the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, led by Abba Kyari, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, frustrated its efforts.
“We went into bank robberies and kidnapping because we wanted to get government’s attention and all we wanted was for them to grant us amnesty and also offer us pipeline protection contract. ‘’We have made several appeals but government is not listening to us.
General Ossy (leader of the gang) said if we don’t blow up the Third Mainland Bridge, government will not listen to us. We had concluded plans to carry out the attack by November ending.
I am the group’s explosives expert and before I was arrested we were going into the creeks to conclude plans on how to carry out the attack.”
The suspect, also popularly known as Senti, said his group was hitherto involved in pipeline vandalism, noting that it resorted to kidnapping when it became difficult for its members to continue with the illegal business due to the presence of the military and policemen.
The suspect is a 43-year-old native of Arogbo, in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State. He was arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, at a river bank in Majidun area of Ikorodu, Lagos, on Monday.
Two AK-47 rifles hidden inside a bag were found with the 43-year-old suspect as Vanguard gathered that additional two cartons of explosives, with the words Gelatine Dynamite inscribed on them, and detonators, were recovered from the group’s operational saloon car.
Amos’ arrest, it was gathered, followed intelligence generated by office of the National Security Adviser to the President, NSA, on November 2, 2016, that the group had concluded plans to blow up the Third Mainland Bridge.
Vanguard gathered that the information was passed on to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, who subsequently directed his IRT to commence investigation into the matter.
During investigation by the team, it was revealed that the militants had acquired a large quantity of dynamite and several other explosives with which to carry out the dastardly act.
Recall that the group in October 2016 carried out secret illegal operations like pipeline vandalism, kidnapping and bank robberies and had demanded for amnesty, threatening to disrupt economic activities within Lagos and Ogun states if the Federal Government didn’t grant their request.
Suspected leader of the militant group, General Ossy (real names not known), had in recent times, allegedly coordinated many bank robberies and several high-profile kidnappings, including the:
General’ Ossy had boasted in an interview with Vanguard that his group has over 21 ‘generals’ commanding 7,800 battle-ready boys, adding that the group is rich enough to fight the Federal Government, having acquired thousands of arms and ammunition similar to that of the military.
He said the arms would be deployed to disrupt economic activities within Lagos and Ogun states, should the Federal Government fail to dialogue with the group and grant its wish.
Confirming the development, Force Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah, a deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, said:
“Yes, an individual was arrested. On sighting the policemen, the second suspect jumped out of his car and escaped into the bush, abandoning the operational vehicle. On searching the vehicle, two cartons of Gelatine dynamite explosives and hundreds of detonators were recovered in the boot of the car. Efforts to arrest the remaining gang members are in progress.”

The Nigerian Army yesterday, claims it recovered Abubakar Shekau’s Qur’an and flag in Camp Zero, the Boko Haram’s Headquarters in Sambisa forest.
Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, said this while giving newsmen update on “Operation Rescue Final” in Maiduguri.
“We believe that the Holy Book and the flag were abandoned by Abubakar Shekau while he escaped. The Book will be taken to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Burutai, for onward presentation to Mr President.
“We have also made a lot of arrests. Our troops in Damboa arrested about 15 Boko Haram members. We also arrested one Musa from Potiskum on Christmas day which was Dec.25.
“On Dec. 26 our troops also intercepted two Boko Haram suspects in Maiduguri.
We, therefore, warn residents of the state to be wary of people coming to hide in and around their houses.
We are also warning residents to report any suspected Boko Haram members hiding in their houses to the relevant security agencies and any failure to do that would tantamount to supporting and sympathising with the sect’s activities,’’ Irabor said.
