Abuja Bombings: Drama As Accused Pleads Guilty.

Abuja Bombings Suspects

There was quite a drama yesterday, 22nd of October, when the five suspected bombers of Nyanya and Kuje, both satellite towns in Abuja, on October 2, 2015, were arraigned on five counts of terrorism.

The accused persons are Abdulazeez Muhazab, Ishaka Salihu, Mohammed Jimoh, Abdulwaheed Nasiru and Abdullahi Nasiru.‎

One of the five accused, Abdulwaheed Nasiru, yesterday pleaded guilty to one of the five counts.

Nasiru pleaded guilty to the possession of materials used for making Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and 12 already made ones when arrested on October 6 alongside other co-accused persons behind Military Cementary Airport Road in Abuja.

Nasiru, the fourth accused person, had along with the fifth, Abdullahi Nasiru, sought the charges to be interpreted to them in pidgin English.

He was repeatedly asked if he understood the charges and he maintained that he was guilty.

Even the intervention by his lawyer, Mr. Nurein Sulyman, who jumped up from his seat and approached the dock to ask him if he truly understood what he pleaded guilty to, would not make him change his plea.

While admitting his guilt, he said he was not the owner of the IED materials but his friend.

“No be me get am; na my friend get am,” he said in pidgin English.

The rest of the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the remaining charges

2 Feared Dead As Robbers Attack In Lagos Traffic.

2 Lagos residents were feared to have been shot dead yesterday when suspected armed robbers attacked motorists in a gridlock at the Costain area of Lagos.

The bandits were said to be robbing motorists at the Eko bridge, which links the Costain area.

It was gathered by City Today that when the hoodlums, who were robbing from one vehicle to another got to a car and ordered the occupants to wind down their windows, the occupants refused to comply.

It was gathered that the refusal of the occupants to wind down the windows, angered the robbers, who shot dead the two occupants.
An eyewitness, simply identified as Onwuyali, said:

“We were in a serious gridlock at the Costain area when armed robbers, who cashed in on the traffic situation started robbing motorists. Our bus was robbed, after which the robbers went to a car in front of ours. I saw one of the armed robbers, arguing with the occupants of the vehicle. I later heard about five gunshots. One of the robbers was searching the car while others were firing into the air.
“The shooting caused serious stampede, as motorists abandoned their vehicles and scampered for safety. Some courageous ones, who tried to zoom off hit other vehicles. It was when people were going to work, so the commotion was too much.”

Another witness, Joel Omojola, said:

“When we heard the gunshots, my family and I thought that they were bank robbers that raided FESTAC Town two weeks ago, so we abandoned our vehicle and took to our heels.

The Lagos State Police image maker, Mr. Joseph Offor, said a motorist called him to reports that there was a traffic robbery at the Costain area of the metropolis,

“but nobody told me that someone died. I cannot say that someone died because I have not been officially briefed on the robbery.”

A woman who was due to testify against her husband who has been accused of mutilating 21 women and keeping their genitals in the freezer has been shot dead.

Anna Matseliso Molise, a key witness in the case against Peter Frederiksen, was gunned down while leaving her home in Lesotho in an assassination-style killing.

Mailonline reports that Mrs Molise, who had reported her husband to police, had been offered witness protection, officers said, because they feared ‘something like this could happen’.

South African police said they found 21 pieces of women’s genitalia – including from a seven-year-old girl – in plastic bags in a freezer at the Danish man’s home in the city of Bloemfontein. Lt Gen Mthandazo Ntlemeza told news channel eNCA:

‘We suspected that something might happen and we offered her witness protection but she refused.’Despite this setback, we are committed to do all in our power to bring justice to all women who fell victim of the accused

His arrest came after his wife told police he drugged her and cut off her genitalia while incapacitated.

In addition to the body parts, police also confiscated surgical equipment, anaesthetic and a large collection of photographs.

Frederiksen, who owns a gun shop in Bloemfontein, is in custody awaiting a court appearance next month. He has not yet entered a plea.

Awal Abdullahi, a 23-year-old tailor, who allegedly beat up a lady, identified as Halima Nasiru, to a state of being unconscious, on Thursday, appeared before a Mararaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

Abdullahi, a resident of Farin Ruga Village in Mararaba, is standing trial on a two-count charge of the alleged use of criminal force and intimidation.

Nigerian Tribune reveals that the prosecutor, Sergeant Samuel Okoro, told the court that ,on October 15, the accused confronted the complainant and beat her to a state of unconsciousness, on the ground that she refused to befriend his friend, simply known as Shettima.

He said:

“The accused allegedly beat her up, resulting in various degrees of injuries all over her body. As a result of the beating, the complainant lost her phone and cash of N5,000,” he said.

He added that the accused also threatened his victim that he would kill her if she did not agree to befriend his friend.

“She was admitted at a medical centre in Mararaba, but was later discharged.”

19 Rivers State “Scholarship” Students Abandon UK Varsities Over Debt.

Over nineteen beneficiaries of the Rivers State Overseas Scholarship Scheme have returned from the United Kingdom without completing their programmes.

The students returned to Nigeria to avoid deportation after the expiration of the deadline for the payment of their school fees and allowances for accommodation.

Punch reveals that Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency said in a statement in Port Harcourt on Thursday that the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, had released some funds to offset the amount owed by the students.

It further disclosed that the funds did not reach the students before the expiration of the deadline for the payment of their tuition fees.

The statement by the Manager, Media and Communications of the RSSDA, Mr. Kingsley Uranta, stated that the registration of the 19 students from the universities of Huddersfield (11), Bighton (three) and Nottingham Trent (five), had been deferred to 2016.

“The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, recently released some funds to pay tuition fees and upkeep and accommodation allowances for some of our students and their universities.

“However, for the UK in particular, the deadline for the payment of some schools fees elapsed before the fees could get to them. As a result, the registration of 19 students for 2015/16 in the universities of Huddersfield (11), Brighton (three) and Nottingham Trent (five) have been deferred to 2016,” the RSSDA said in the statement.

“Sadly, the 19 students, who have now left the United Kingdom to avoid infringing their immigration status and be deported, are expected to arrive in Nigeria today Thursday, October 22, 2015.

“We have confirmed from the universities that the students have the opportunity to return to school next year. We shall update you on any further development on the issue,” the statement read.

New Study: Men Prefer Brain Over Body But Feel Threatened By Intelligent Women.

A new study on human behaviour theorizes that most men may prefer brains over the lustful body of women but when it comes to actually dating an intelligent woman, they are more likely to sprint.

This is according to a new study, after findings into what men find desirable in women.

A research published in the November edition of ‘Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin’, men may claim to find a woman who is smarter than them more attractive. But it seems they get cold feet at the prospect of dating such a woman in real life.

The study, was carried out at the University of Buffalo, California Lutheran University and University of Texas, Austin, was split into two parts.

The men were given an intelligence test and then told they were about to meet a woman who had either performed better or worse than them.

The men who were told they were to meet a woman who performed better than them “distanced themselves more from her, tended to rate her as less attractive, and showed less desire to exchange contact information or plan a date with her”, the study found.

The authors concluded that “feelings of diminished masculinity accounted for men’s decreased attraction toward women who outperformed them.”

Nigerian Police Arraign 20 Pro Biafra Supporters For Treason.

The Nigerian Police have charged 20 pro Biafra supporters who were part of the protest by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Monday, in Port Harcourt, among other things, for treasonable felony at a Magistrate’s court in Port Harcourt.

Those arraigned in court were:

Benson Sunday (21), Emmanuel Ali (25), Ukeme Monday (32), Chibuzo Ezechina (33), Charles Eze (29), Egbo Okechukwu (24), Chibona Ifion (47), John Douglas (20), Ezenwa Alphonus (51), Wori Endurance (30), Chinomere Nwolu (25), Henry Eze (36),Friday Uzunwa (22), Igodo Abio (34), Akaniyene Uwem (22), Eni Iboro (27), Obinna Stephen (26), Monday Ocha (37), Obinna Ibekwe (27), and Kingsley Ezengorie (24) .

They were charged for treasonable felony after allegedly destroying the national flag hoisted at the premises of a bank during their protest and chanting hate songs against the Nigerian state.

The three- count charge against them read in part,

“…on October 20 2015, at about 2:00p.m., at Ikwerre Road in Port Harcourt, the suspects and others now at large, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: Treason and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 37(2), of the criminal code, Cap C38, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004.… all the suspects and others now at large on the same place and time, did wilfully and unlawfully damage the Nigeria flag, which was hoisted at Zenith Bank Plc. Ikoku Branch in Port Harcourt, and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 451 of criminal code, Cap c38 laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004.”

Chief Magistrate Andrew-Jaja said that though there were arguments from various counsels to grant them bail, he was not convinced.

So, he ordered that they be remanded in prison custody till October 27 when each of the counsels will address the court on their bail application.

Miss Kehinde Adeniyi a 60-year-old single mother, has been apprehended and charged before the Isolo Magistrates’ court after she allegedly used a table knife to cut off her neighbour’s ear in Lagos.

The victim, Mr. Chigozie Chukwu suffered his fate after a disagreement between his wife and Adeniyi when he was not around. The incident happened at 24, Mohammed Sefiu street, Ago Palace Way Okota, Lagos where they reside.

According to P.M.NEWS, the two families have been at loggerheads which led to a strained relationship despite the fact that they are living in separate flats.

Adeniyi, who hails from Ijebu in Ogun State, is single and has many children, while Chukwu is also married and has children and hails from the eastern part of Nigeria.Trouble started after Chukwu’s wife, Anita, had a quarrel with Adeniyi.

According to Adeniyi, Anita called her a prostitute because she was single mother with children.

This did not go down well with Adeniyi who planned to confront Anita on that fateful day and when she did not locate her, she transferred her aggression to her husband.

On the day the incident happened, Adeniyi reportedly attacked Chukwu from behind with a table knife She allegedly cut off his right ear and threw it away.The victim who started bleeding profusely was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The matter was reported to the police and Adeniyi was arrested and taken to court for the alleged offence. She was charged with inflicting bodily injury by using table knife to cut off Chukwu’s ear. She pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Abbass Abayomi informed the court about the seriousness of the injury the victim sustained and presented the table knife as exhibit before the court.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Adedayo granted her bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition.

It was gathered that Adeniyi is making efforts settle the matter out of court.

Thief Returns Money Belonging To Orphans.

A thief from Iraqi have returned 10 million dinars (Dh32,000) which he allegedly stole from a house two days after learning the money belongs to orphans, a news network reported on Wednesday.

The thief, apparently feeling guilty, left the stolen money in a plastic bag at the door of the house in the eastern Diyala province at dawn, Al Sumeria network said.

“We found the stolen money in a plastic bag left just outside the door.“The money belongs to orphans whose father died in a bomb attack four years ago,” the Iraqi network said, quoting a source close to that family.

20 Shot Dead By Boko Haram In Borno.

Twenty people are said to have been shot dead by the suspected Boko Haram sect on Wednesday on a road outside a village in Nigeria’s northeast, Borno state, local sources said.

AFP reports that a large group of Boko Haram gunmen fleeing a military offensive on their camp in Nganzai district opened fire on four cars just outside Jingalta village, 70 kilometres (45 miles) north of Maiduguri, killing all 20 passengers inside, a vigilante and a villager said.

25-year-old woman, Chiwendu Nwobodo, who was bathed with hot groundnut oil by her neighbour in the Surulere area of Lagos over N900, has reportedly lost her two-month-old pregnancy.

Her husband, Chigozie, spoke with PUNCH Metro that his wife had also developed complications as her left ear was now oozing pus.

The suspect, Iya Daniel, had been re-arrested and detained at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba. Chiwendu and Iya Daniel, who were neighbours, lived on Ogbomosho Street, Ijesha, in the Surulere area.

They were said to have had a disagreement during which Chiwendu reportedly kicked away some balls of puff-puff belonging to the suspect.

Iya Daniel allegedly demanded N900 for the damage, which the victim’s husband promised to pay. However, after returning from work on the evening of the fateful day, the airport worker was said to have gone to the toilet.

She was reportedly coming out when Iya Daniel accosted her and emptied a pail of hot groundnut oil on her.She was subsequently rushed to the hospital and placed on admission.

The suspect was arrested by policemen from the Ijesha division, but was later released on bail. Chigozie told the publication at the SDCI on Wednesday that his wife had lost her first pregnancy.

He said:

“She developed complications and started losing blood from her private parts. We were advised to do a scan, and the result showed that she had lost the baby.

“We were advised to take her to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. The doctors said they will have to flush her system to remove the remains of the baby. They also prescribed some drugs to her.

“I am sad because it was supposed to be our first child. We have been married since May 2014 and we were happy when our family doctor confirmed that she was pregnant. But now that she has lost it. I am angry because Iya Daniel caused it.”

It was observed that the victim’s right ear was discharging white fluids, while some parts of her face had peeled off. She also walked with some difficulty as her sister, who said her picture should not be taken, helped her to the door.

When Punch asked how she was doing, she simply said she was getting better. It was, however, learnt that Chiwendu rarely slept as she always felt pains all over her body.

Chigozie said she wanted the suspect charged for the injury on his wife and the lost of the pregnancy.

“This is murder. I want the law to take its full course in this case,” he said.

Khloe Kardashian And Lamar Odom Call Off Divorce.

So reality Tv star, Khloe Kardashian and her estranged husband, Lamar Odom, who is recovering from a coma he suffered last week Friday have reportedly decided to give it another shot.

They have decided to call off their divorce. This comes after news that Khloe had to forfeit her boyfriend, James Harden following the Lamar crisis.

E! News tells the story:

E! News confirms the 31-year-old Keeping Up With the Kardashians star and the 35-year-old former NBA player are calling off their divorce. The two both signed divorce papers in July, but, due to a file backlog, the judge had yet to sign off, so the pair is still legally married.

Khloe’s attorney Laura Wasser went into court this morning and asked the judge to withdraw the divorce petition that was currently being processed and awaiting a judge’s signature. The judge granted the petition and the divorce case is now over”

78 Year Old Man Slits Own Throat In Kano.

A 78-year-old man has left many taken aback after he reportedly committed suicide in Kano state.

A Mr. Hassan Chiroma, slit his own throat at the city abattoir in Kano, yesterday, 20th of October, 2015.

Eyewitness said the man was earlier sighted at blacksmith section of the market around midday where he allegedly purchased a knife which he used to commit suicide.

The eyewitness said:

“We mistook him as one of the numerous butchers plying their trade, but we were shocked soon as he turned the same knife against himself. ”

The witness, who preferred anonymity, stated that the desperate cry of a man in danger triggered pandemonium among traders who didn’t have the courage to watch the horror.

But the police authorities which suspected foul play over the development, has taken into custody four persons in connection with the tragic incident.

The police spokesman in Kano, ASP Magaji Musa Majia, told Vanguard on phone

: “We rushed to the scene and met the septuagenarian in his pool of blood, rushed him to the nearest medical facility where he gave up the ghost.

“We are working on two leads and the likely outcome of our investigation would certainly reveal whether it is suicide or otherwise.”

The police spokesman said the command had requested the hospital authorities to carry out autopsy to ascertain factors that led to his death, adding that the corpse would only be released for burial after investigation was completed.
