Famous Hollywood actress/ BET’s Being Mary Jane star, Gabrielle Union, has spoken up on her battle to have a child and that she hates it when a woman’s career is blamed for her subsequent failure to bear children.
The 42-year-old actress and her 33-year-old husband Dwyane Wade, who she got married to last year, have been open about trying to start a family.
Having a career is not the price that you pay for any ill.’I think TV shows and film kind of make the frigid, you know single-focused career woman, that her career is the root of all of the problems in her life,’ Can’t find a man, it’s the career.
Marriage falls apart, it’s the career!…and that’s just not the case.’If you happen to have issues with fertility as you’ve gotten older and you happen to have a career, all is not lost…there are so many options, and you’re not alone.’
However Gabrielle stopped short of revealing how she was being treated, other than to say it was not IVF.
‘I was actually not talking about IVF for me personally, but more of just in general,”Most of my friends who have done IVF aren’t women in their 40’s – women in their 20’s and 30’s
It’s only last month when talk show host, Tyra Banks and John Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen also opened up on their struggle with infertility.
A man that was allegedly brutalised and shot on the leg by some soldiers in Benin, the Edo State capital, has raised an alarm over what he called the inhuman treatment meted out to him.
But the Nigerian Army has insisted that the man, Mr. Daniel Owie, is an armed robber, who attempted to snatch the soldiers’ vehicle.
The soldiers, who were reportedly led by an Army Captain, actually brutalized Owie before shooting him on the leg.
In a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, the victim appealed to him to investigate the alleged murder attempt on his life and the breach of his fundamental human rights by a group of soldiers led by a yet to be identified captain in Benin, Daily Sun reports.
Mr. Owie is currently receiving treatment at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where he was chained to the bed allegedly on the orders of the Army Captain. The captain also detailed two soldiers to watch over him.
Owie said on October 3, about 8.pm, he met a vehicle that blocked Ihama Road and he went to the car to see if he could assist the owners to push the vehicle off the road.
He said that the occupants of the vehicle ordered him to go back to his car, adding that the way and manner they talked to him led to an exchange of words.
He was subsequently given the beating of his life by the soldiers, he stated.
“Our client told us further that he was surprised that one of them introduced himself as a captain in the Nigerian Army and he further identified himself by brandishing his service pistol.
“After the beating, the said the captain called his military boys, who came in a Hilux Pick-up van and, without questions and after he identified him to them, started to beat him again with fists and gun butt.
“He further said he was shot on his leg on the instruction of the said captain. He also said that there were bruises all over his body, inflicted by the military men called by the captain.”
Owie alleged in the petition that after shooting him, they took him to the hospital in their military base along the Airport Road, Benin, where medical doctors on duty told them that they would not admit him on the ground that the military men were not consistent in their statement as per how he was shot.
He said he was later taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital where he was admitted. He also alleged that his KIA SUV, two handsets, wristwatch and eyeglasses were taken away from him by the said captain and his boys.
“As if (as an) afterthought, at about 10am on Sunday, October 4, 2015, the said captain led other military officers to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital to handcuff him to the bed and detailed two military men to watch over him. They alleged that he was shot because he wanted to snatch their car from them,” the petition said.
But in a swift reaction, spokesman of the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Benin, Capt. Joseph Unuakhalu, said Owie was a member of a robbery gang, who robbed an army officer along Ihama Road on the fateful day and was arrested by personnel of the Nigerian Air Force.
The Army statement reads:
“At about 10:30pm on 3 October 2015, Troops of 4 Brigade Garrison responding to a distress call, rescued an army officer, who was attacked by suspected armed robbers at Ihama Junction, along Airport Road, Benin city. “During the attack, the officers index finger was cut off by the suspected robbers.
“Earlier, the gang robbed two policemen from Lagos Command, who came for their colleague’s wedding. Prior to the troops’ arrival, personnel of the Nigerian Air Force close to the scene responded and arrested one of the suspected robbers, Mr. Daniel Owie, while others ran away abandoning a Kia Sportage Jeep with Reg No EDO BEN 190 BR.
“He was handed over to oour troops on arrival. However, the suspect attempted to escape and was shot on his left leg. Suspect is currently receiving treatment at UBTH while investigations are ongoing.”
At the time of this report, Owie was still receiving treatment at the hospital. When contacted, medical director of the hospital, Prof. Michael Ibadin, said he was not aware of the development.
Timothy Ojomandu, an alleged of a three-man gang that hides under gridlock to attack and rob motorists around Mile 2 area in the state was apprehended over the weekend .
According to Vanguard, the suspect was caught in the act at about 7:30 pm by the team of policemen who responded to a distress call made by the driver of Mitsubishi Canter with number plate, FKJ 676 XF, after the suspect and his gang members had successfully stolen one carton of cell battery from the truck which was fully loaded with hundreds of the cartons.
The truck driver, Mr. Ajiboye Mogaji, who accompanied the suspect to the RRS Headquarters at Alausa, told the Police that he sighted the suspect from the side mirror of his vehicle when he sneaked-in through the back of the truck.
He said:
‘’When I saw him sneaking-in to my truck, I pretended as if I didn’t see him. While inside the truck, he passed one carton to his partner who was moving beside the vehicle. As soon as I saw him passing one carton to his partner on the ground, I rushed down on motion.
However, when his partner saw me alighting from the vehicle, he absconded with that one carton, and I held the suspect by his trousers when he wanted to jump down from the truck. Then, I shouted for help and the Policemen from RRS who were patrolling the area responded swiftly to the distress call.”
The suspect, who confessed to the crime, said he was just being recruited into the group about two months ago.
“Our robbery gang was in the habit of stealing handsets and other valuables from pedestrians and motorists during the peak period of traffic congestion along the area. I was a bus conductor before Victor Chibonwu, our gang leader, introduced me to the act of theft. On the fateful day, I, Victor and Richard went to Mile 2, looking for our would-be victims.
On getting to the spot, we saw one truck fully loaded with cell batteries heading towards Ijora, and it was held up in the traffic.
I now got the opportunity to enter inside the truck from behind. I succeeded in removing one carton of the battery and passed it to my partner walking beside me, and in the process to pass another one, the driver showed up and held me tight by my trousers before he handed me over to the Police but my other colleagues were able to run away with one carton of the battery,” he confessed
The suspect, who hails from Isseke Local Government Area in Anambra State, simply disclosed their receiver as Mr. Gawo, who owns shops at Tin-Can Island, Apapa, in the state.
“We do sell all our stolen goods to him. He operates many shops at Tin-Can Island. Victor was the one who usually takes the stolen goods to him after each operation,” the suspect added.
The suspect has been transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, for further investigation.

The World Health Organisation, WHO has newly revealed that one out of every six Africans suffer from mental disorder.
The statistics was announced on Saturday by the World Health Organisation Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, during a message she delivered on this year’s World Mental Health Day.
In a statement issued by WHO, Moeti is quoted:
“On 10 October 2015, we join the rest of the world in commemorating World Mental Health Day under the theme, ‘Dignity in mental health’.
“The theme draws attention to the crucial need to ensure that dignity is preserved in all aspects of mental health, ranging from care for patients to the attitudes of the general public.
“In the African Region, it is estimated that one out of every six people suffers from some form of mental disorder. Unfortunately, in the course of treatment, some patients are subjected to undignified treatment, such as being chained to trees or beds, locked in a cage, left without food for many hours, deprived from family support and inadequate personal hygiene.”
According to Moeti, mental health patients deserve respect and compassion as they cope with their disease, as it is expected of those who suffer from any other disease.
Oh well, it looks like rapper, 50 Cent has lost his star power as he has been forced to drop the price of his huge Connecticut mansion yet again in his latest attempt to sell the property.
The 50,000-square-foot home in Farmington, with 21 bedrooms and 25 bathrooms, has been listed for sale priced $8.5million. He had originally listed the property for sale in 2007 for $18.5million – but the price has been dropped several times in subsequent attempts to sell it.
Lawyers representing Jackson said he would try again to sell the property to raise funds after filing for bankruptcy over the summer.
However, Rob Giuffria, a realtor in Farmington and an expert in the area’s high-end real estate, said the property still won’t sell.
He told the Hartford Courant:
‘$8.5million? Not a chance. 50 would have a better chance being a country music singer.’
He does not believe the property, set on 17 acres, will sell for more than $5million. The mansion, which has been listed Douglas Elliman Real Estate, is one of the biggest private residences in America. Jackson bought the house in 2003 from boxer Mike Tyson for $4.1million.
He then spent more than $6million renovating the house and its grounds, and installed a helicopter pad, infinity pool and private cinema.
The home also has a private casino, gym, racquetball courts and disco room with stripper poles. There are 52 rooms in total, including nine kitchens.
But after failing to sell it in 2007, the price was reduced four times – to $10million by the end of 2010.It reportedly costs $72,000 a month to maintain.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has hinted that Super Eagles team will be restricted on their use of social media while on international duty following the brawl between Sunday Oliseh and Vincent Enyeama last Tuesday.
President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick made this known after a meeting in Belgium on Saturday. He said a code of conduct document would be released soon and it involves restrictions on social media.
Pinnick is quoted saying:
“A small group had been working on the document and I am happy to say that it is now ready for implementation. This will spell out how players and officials must conduct themselves while in any of the national camps, and minimize the probability of misunderstanding between coaches and players.
“The recent happening in the camp of the Super Eagles in Belgium was unwarranted but I am happy we have been able to put that behind us. Both Coach Sunday Oliseh and player Vincent Enyeama even spoke cordially on Saturday during Enyeama’s meeting with the NFF leadership,
“No player launches his career through the social media. When players are at their clubs, they don’t broadcast camp situation on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, The same restraint and discipline must be observed in the national camp.”
Senate president Bukola Saraki has newly disclosed that he has not been in communication with APC leader, Bola Tinubu since he emerged as the country’s senate President.
The senate President disclosed this in response to Tinubu’s statement by his media aide which read:
“would not join with Senator Saraki in hindering this government which may just be the nation’s last best chance to salvage itself”. “On these matters, I know where Asiwaju Tinubu stands. He remains glued to the party decision that the manner by which Saraki captured his current seat travestied party discipline. It was a crass act of disloyalty showing that Saraki may have joined the APC on paper but has remained true to the malpractices and wrong aims of the reactionary PDP in his soul.”
The Sun reports that Tinubu and Saraki were allegedly working together to frustrate Buhari’s ministerial list. They also claimed Tinubu had been placed under security watch; claims which were dismissed by the presidency.
Obviously not happy with Tinubu’s statement, Senator Bukola Saraki replied:
I saw the statement said to be issued by Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu over a story published by The Sun newspapers. I have decided not to join issues with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, I know that most Nigerians are aware that there has been no meeting or communication between me and Asiwaju Tinubu since I was elected Senate President. Therefore, I do not see any basis for a newspaper to report that we are both plotting to oppose the President.
I recognize Tinubu as one of the leaders of the APC who contributed so much to the victory of the party in the last election. Some other people also contributed and I believe the collective efforts made it possible for the first time in the history of our party for an opposition party to win the general elections, Let me state clearly that I remain a committed member of the APC and will do all in my power to ensure the party fulfill its promises to bring positive changes into the country.
Since my election as Senate President, my focus and efforts have been devoted to doing the job that I was elected to do by my constituents and my colleagues in the Senate. Twice, my colleagues have confirmed their support for me as the primus inter pares in the Senate. As I said in my speech when we resumed from our recess late September and in Ikenne yesterday, the screening of ministerial nominees will be handled by me and my colleagues with all sense of responsibility and in adherence to the provision of the constitution. We will be fair to all and be guided by the interest of Nigeria.
The screening will be devoid of sentiment and it is not an opportunity for anybody to settle scores. We are equally eager for us to make a positive difference in our polity and Nigerians will be able to judge us whether we acted in their best interest or not.
Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki
President of the Senate
Federal Republic of Nigeria

“We disagree sometimes, but we don’t really fight.”

“If we get mad at each other, we just start laughing.”
Absurd, isn’t it?
Tyga continued:
“As long as you know yourself and you got good people around you and you passionate about what you do, that’s all that matters because at the end of the day, you go to sleep with the people you love, you wake up with the people you love, and you spend your time with the people you love.
The attention of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has been drawn to the above caption published in the Saturday Vanguard of 10 October 2015 in which it claimed one of the Chibok girls who escaped from terrorists’ captivity was handed to the military post in Baga. The spurious report by the Vanguard is not only misleading but is once again another unconscionable outing as there is no iota of truth in its entirety, hence should be disregarded.
In as much as the Nigerian military and other security agencies are working round the clock to secure the release of not only the Chibok girls but other innocent citizens who are held hostage by the terrorist, it will not give in to misleading reports which has no true source as we have repeatedly pledged to inform the Nigerian publics on the true situation on our ongoing operations. The sensitive nature of this report notwithstanding, the moral justification for this false publication cannot be substantiated.
Like other well meaning Nigerians, friends of Nigeria and the international community who showed concern for the plight of the abducted girls, the Nigerian military also being a component of the society, is equally worried and is doing everything possible to address the current security challenges. The search for abducted Chibok school girls and the rescue of other Nigerian in hostage has never relapse as could be attested to in recent times where hundreds of women and children were rescued by the military through its coordinated operations. The military has and will continue to sustain the operation until the entire North East is cleared of all terrorists and miscreants.
The DHQ is not unmindful of the media’s good intention in this regards however, we wish to advise reporters and any other stakeholders to be good partners in ensuring their safe rescue and successful termination of terrorists campaign. We also urge journalist to be cautious of reporting such issues and by extension, security and defence related matters.
We wish to once again remind journalists to seek clarifications on any issue relating to military operations and other national sensitive matters before going to press.
