Residents of the ancient town of Ile-Ife, have been warned to remain indoors for the Oro deity to observe the final funeral rites for the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Ile-Ife, Osun, observed that the palace town criers were going round the town announcing that residents, especially commercial drivers and motorcyclists should stay indoors between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
NAN reports that this will enable the Oro deity perform necessary rites for the departed monarch.
It was gathered that the Head of Oro Cult in Ife, the Awara of Iwara, Oba Layi Adereti had ordered the curfew, warning that anyone who flouted the order, irrespective of age or gender would face its consequences.
However, residents were apprehensive of the stay at home order as many of them rushed to the few available markets to get essentials that would last them for the day.
It would be recalled that major market places in Ife had been shut since last week Friday when the burial rites started.
Although, some markets in Mayfair and its environs have been in operation.
As a result of the curfew, some Heads of Departments in the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife cancelled the continuous assessment tests for their students earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday.
Some students, who reside off campus, have been advised to remain indoors in compliance with the Oro cult order.
Also, hundreds of commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as “Okada riders” were seen on Friday distributing a hand bill to their colleagues, warning them against operating in Ife on Saturday.
The Vice President of the Okada Riders Association, Ile-Ife chapter, Idowu Akamo, told NAN that the fliers became imperative because some members of the association were always busy and might not have heard the town criers while making the announcement.
He said that many of the residents as well as the Okada riders had thought the mourning period would end on August 21, adding that many residents were surprised when they heard the stay-at-home order.
According to him, the Oro people should not be dared because the consequences might be disastrous, saying the association will not like to lose its members because of disobedience.
It would be recalled that the Oro cult had on penultimate Friday, after the inter-religious farewell service for the monarch in Ife, asked residents of Ife to stay at home from 4 p.m. till dawn for the next seven days in continuation of the final rites of the late Sijuade.
Many residents had respected the order and were thinking it had ended on Friday but got a shock when the curfew order came on Saturday.
Producer, OJB Jezreel has decided to set the records straight regarding who discovered Wizkid.
In a chat with Saturday Beats,OJB said he hadn’t spoken about it before now because he is too old to be blowing his own trumpet at 50.
The beat maker said that he went to Wizkid’s family house to convince his parents to allow him pursue his music career.
“To set the records, I discovered Wizkid’s talent. We basically started his career and I remember when we had to push Wizkid around and take him for shows but nobody was ready to allow him to perform because they were not ‘feeling’ him at that point in time. When he had the chance and said he wanted to move on and try other things, we were behind him then too. If we did not discover him, he would not have been with us. I was the first person to go to his family house to tell them that it would be a nice idea if they allowed him to go into music.
We have been there from day one but not everybody know this story, we don’t just make noise about it. It is not Banky W that discovered him, I did. I would soon be 50 years old and I think it would be funny if I start blowing my trumpet,” he said.
OJB told Saturday Beats that he has no regrets when it comes to Wizkid because he pushed his career as far as he could.
“There are some artistes that if you spend millions of naira on them, they would not be impactful until they cross borders. Take Harrysongs for example, millions was spent on him but nothing happened till he crossed over to Five Star Entertainment. There is no how Harrysongs would say that Questionmark record label was not a blessing to his life. Sometimes, these things happen like that and I think it is destiny,” he said.

Five Star Music Act, Kcee said his brother E-money didn’t use or try to use Skiibii for money ritual.
Fans accused E-money of using the singer for money rituals after his death PR stunt failed.
Kcee and Chairman of Five Star Music Group – E Money
Kcee told Wazobia FM that:
“I’m disappointed with people on social media who said that my brother, E Money, used Skiibii for money rituals. What gets me even angrier is that now that he did not die, they are saying his head was too strong for the juju and that is why immediately I came into the country I decided to use this medium to clarify issues.”
“I was on tour with my producer, Soso Soberekon in Norway when the purported rumour of Skiibii’s death broke. Somebody called Soso to confirm the news and Soso called his boy who confirmed that Skiibii col lapsed and was rushed to the hospital but he did not know what exactly was happening but it’s like Skiibii was dead and so he told the caller that skiibii was actually dead.
“I later got in touch with my brother, E-Money, who said he had instructed that Skiibii be transferred to another hospital immediately. So the whole issue was misconstrued because of Soso and he has been placed on suspension by the management.”
Nollywood actress Doris Simeon had a chat with Encomium soft-sell magazine recently.
In the chat she talks about being a businesswoman and how she has been able to combine being an actress and running a successful saloon.
She also touches on her private life – including the fact that she misses her son, might get remarried and that her divorce case with Daniel Ademinokan is still in court.
She also addresses rumours that she was recently heartbroken by ThisDay Newspaper’s Political Editor, Wale Olaleye.
Read excerpts below.
On her current project: I am on my latest shoot. I am just on break. I am planning to finish it this week. For now, the working title is The Victim, which will definitely change along the line because I realized Mercy Aigbe too had shot a movie called, The Victim. And after this week’s shoot, I am planning to do a bigger movie. Also, I am working on my TV show.
On making profit from her saloon: It’s very profitable. When you buy hair of N200,000 and you see about three or four people buying from you per day, the gain on that alone is something. Ordinarily, as a businesswoman, I may not get it for N200,000 but when you put the cost of transportation and other miscellaneous expenses attached to getting it, it will be around that amount.
On why she opened a saloon: I won’t say it’s because movies are not doing well and that’s why I went into hairdressing. It’s just because I have passion for it, even since when I was very young. And it’s what our mom trained us with since the beginning of our lives. It’s what we all grew up to know. We’re always in the shop with her, trying to help her, especially when it comes to festive period when customers would keep trooping in. We would be left with no alternative than to assist her so that she won’t be much stressed. We must make sure everything went on well. Since then, I have to sit up, continue learning from wherever we think we need to go and learn and put in more effort into our career.
On not having her son in her custody: No mother will be happy if her child is not with her. But then, that’s still my private life just like I keep saying, and I am dealing with it.
On a possible reconciliation with Daniel: Just like I said, everything concerning that is my private life, and I want to keep it private.
On rumours she was heartbroken by Wale Olaleye’s recent marriage: I have no comment on that. I still see it as part of my life as a celebrity. If I walk in the street with another man, people will just say or write one or two things about it. So, it’s just one of those things. I am used to it. Wale is my friend just like he is to you as well. Whether we like it or not, people in the media and those of us in entertainment are all friends. I don’t understand what you said they’re saying. Were they there when we’re discussing that? Are they prophets? They should tell you and shed light on where they heard the story that we’re dating and that we wanted to get married.
On being a single mother: It’s even about five years we have separated. And as a single mother, I think I love it. I am a single mother, I love my child and I live my life. It’s just one of those things but if by tomorrow God says this is who I am getting married to again, all well and good. But, however it’s, as per my present situation, I am enjoying my life and thanking God because I am alive and I can eat without begging anybody for food. I believe as long as there is life, there is always hope in everything you do. So, with my present situation, I thank God for everything.
On giving marriage another shot: Just like I said, if God says it’s time for me to get married again, all well and good. We’re still in court. So, I don’t want to talk further on that.
On her marriage to Daniel Ademinokan: No one will be happy when one is heart broken or one has a broken home. I don’t like dwelling on the past or crying over spilled milk. What concerns me most is focusing on my future and whatever it is I need to do at the moment.
In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim told the newspaper that she wanted to be a musician and not an actress.
According to her:
“I wanted to be a musician when I was growing up and I really loved Celine Dion. It just happened. I won a beauty pageant in 2004 and shortly after, someone called me about an audition.
The person said they were looking for someone like me and that was how I became an actress.”
In the last few years, D’Banj was arguably the most celebrated Nigerian artiste alive. Over seven years, he kept churning out hits and bestrode the music scene like a colossus. But few months after his break up with his producer and partner of the defunct Mo’Hits Records- Don Jazzy, things began to nosedive and his relevance began to wane.
Since the breakup in 2012, he has worked with four different managers and management companies ranging from Seun Abisagboola popularly known as Bankulli, Tonye Merrit, Tony Nwakalor and Sunday Are of List Entertainment, his manager in the Mo’Hits era.
What we can’t however comprehend is whether these managers could no longer wave the magic wand effectively enough to yield the very badly needed effect to catapult D’Banj’s career to a most enviable height.
However, it might not be far from the truth to say that D’Banj is the architect of his own misfortune.
This week, Seun Apara attempts to examine the dwindling fortunes and career of the pop star and his many struggles to regain reckoning in the spotlight.
1. Capacity: It is an obvious secret that D’Banj lacks the capacity to single handedly write a good song but he is no doubt a great entertainer. His performances are always full of great energy and exude lots of confidence. He is unarguably a superb performer. Beyond that, what is the essence of sweating it out on stage when the fans are obviously not connecting with the music?
It has been observed that D’Banj doesn’t have the ability to write to the maximum capacity of an ideal song. He only writes catch phrases that match his somewhat mediocre vocal strength so that he can confidently express it.
And with a voice that is limited, the song also becomes limited. Aside the fact that his songs now sound monotonous, they are written and performed within the same style, similar dynamics and similar expression.
A common feature in his music of recent is that he sings the entire song at a similar pitch and similar emotional intensity unlike the good old Mo’Hits days. While his relationship with Don Jazzy subsists, Jazzy reportedly composed over 90% of the songs they recorded.
To however cover up for his lapses, one would have expected him to immediately enlist the services of a good songwriter or develop his own capacity. His last major hit still remains Oliver Twist, his last song produced by Don Jazzy.
MAVIN Records big boss, Don Jazzy, born Michael Collins Ajereh is an enigma, whom very little is known about. He once boasted that he hates talking onstage and rarely ever grants press interviews.
Apart from his activities on social media very little is known about the multi-award winning music maker.
But recently Don Jazzy let down his guard and granted City People, a soft-sell magazine an interview.
From the revealing interview here are some facts you probably don’t know about the Nigeria’s foremost music maker.
1. He prefers bringing up new artistes than hooking up the the big boys
2. He hasn’t slept in his house in over one year. He lives in the studio at Lekki

Newly appointed Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh has addressed the issue of ‘The Exclusion of Mikel Obi’s name from the list of players invited for the forthcoming 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Tanzania’.
When He was Asked why Mikel was left out of his list, Oliseh said he called Mikel several times but he never responded or called him back.
“I went to England on a Thursday and Chelsea was just coming back. We had fixed our visit to coincide with the end of their tour before they played Arsenal. I contacted Obi Mikel, called him on several occasions with no reply; sent him an SMS with no reply, went to London where he plays in the same club with Victor Moses.
I called Moses, the phone rang three times and he picked it up and I spoke with him. Moses came to the meeting but he (Mikel) didn’t come.”
I left to Liverpool to meet the other player and I spent about six hours to go there and back but there was no response from Mikel until I returned here. Till now I have not spoken with Mikel. I think it was yesterday (Wednesday) that I saw a missed call, so at the moment I don’t know what the situation is.
No player is special, every player is the same, every other player we contacted and spoke with have been invited them” Oliseh said in a media parley yesterday in Abuja
Actress, Tonto Dikeh-Churchill In an interview with Channels TV, said she has been married longer than people think.
“I have been for a very long time.. Just that I kept the secret to myself..and trying to enjoy married life..yea it just came out like 2-3 days ago.One mistake we do is having this very loud announcement on when you have been engaged and everything and its only normal that the media helps you destroy your marriage before you even get into your home. So,privacy is key in my marriage” – she said
Wen asked how being married has influenced her person, Tonto said:
“It has changed me a lot I could say. It has. It has changed my perspective of life. It has changed the way I think. For once, it has made me a very happy woman, something that i never used to have. Happiness is everything. If you are not happy, you can never be satisfied with what you have or you can never appreciate all the people. I think it has opened my eyes to be able appreciate people despite the fact that they are who they are. I thank God” – she said
On the perception that she is very controversial, Tonto said
“I am a very straightforward person. I am like a book. I am just very open. I think the controversial part of me is something that the media has put upon me. It’s just unfortunate that sometimes I help them play that role because of anger. I get so angry sometimes and I help them play that role. But never again. I have leanrt a lot. Like I said before what marriage has done for me. Marriage has changed my perspective. Now, no body can push me to being controversial anymore this interview with re .Sometimes, I handled it really badly ,and sometimes handle it really good. I will say badly because I responded to negativity and that only just gave an approval that she is a controversial person But I am actually a very sweet loving and godly person.’Controversy is actually very far from me. I wouldn”t say that I have not experienced controversy from a very early age. I have. Even in secondary school when everybody thought I was the bad girl meanwhile I was the only virgin out of my school .Although I just like to hang around men rather than female and they just have this idea in their head. Oh I like wearing short skirts rather than long skirts. I have always had that thing with misconception. Only those who are very close to me understand me. I have been very stubborn about people understanding me.Like I don’t care if you understand me”she said

You can read his apology letter below;
“I’m offering my unreserved apology to everyone, especially Linda Ikeji, all Media houses,Friends, fans, the entire “Five Star Music Group” and the general public.
Following events inaccurately reported in the media on one of the artistes under my management Skiibbii ‘Abbey Toyyib Elias’, that subsequently resulted in adverse publicity to our group.
With my wealth of experience in the entertainment business, I would like to state that events leading to the above misinformation through my channel was due to a breakdown in communication.
I accept full responsibility and this fell short of the high standard that I have always maintained within the industry, thus the reason why I offer this apology.
