The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has teased his followers that he will ultimately open up on the recent happenings in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that led to the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the party and Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as vice presidential candidate.

Wike wrote via his Twitter handle ;

I will speak soon and Nigerians will know the truth of all that has transpired in the PDP in recent times.

Wike’s tweet comes after his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, released a statement that echoed the unsaid events in the Party.

“On Atiku, I will speak soon, and Nigerians will know the actual truth of all that has transpired in the PDP in recent times,” he was quoted to have said in the statement.

In the party’s presidential primary held in May, Atiku polled 371 votes to emerge as the PDP’s flagbearer ahead of Wike who scored 237 votes to come second in the contest.

Man gets shot at after allegedly crushing policeman with his car in Enugu (Video)

Officers of the Enugu State Police Command have shot a motorist, Christian Ogwuike, after he allegedly crushed a policeman at a checkpoint.

Reports have it that Ogwuike was with his fiancée in a Lexus SUV on Thursday, July 21, 2022, when they met some policemen at the Monkey Roundabout close to the Zonal Office of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission.

According to a source, who claims to have been an eyewitness, told Punch the police shot the motorist because he refused to give them bribe.

He is quoted as saying,

“When he stopped, one of the policemen, who were six at the time, asked him to clear from the road and come down. I don’t know what transpired again, but I saw when they started shouting. I overheard the guy saying he won’t give them N5,000.

“The next thing I saw was when the policemen dragged the guy out of his car and shot him pointblank. They also demobilised his car and took him away.”

A video of the incident went viral online. In the video, the policemen are seen carrying the victim into a vehicle.

Reacting to the incident on Sunday, July 24, the Enugu State Police Command confirmed the shooting, but said Ogwunike knocked down an officer.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said,

“On July 21, 2022, around 2pm, a team of police operatives serving in No. 3 PMF Enugu, while on routine stop and search duty at the EFCC Roundabout, Independence Layout, flagged down the driver of a Lexus saloon car.

“The driver, rather than stop, recklessly zoomed off, knocking down one of the operatives and pulling him along to a distance of about four poles, before he was forced to stop by other members of the team, who immediately went after him.

“In the bid to restrain the driver from further escape, one of the operatives fired a knee-level shot, which got him (driver) in the thigh.

“The policeman, Inspector Aneka Ndayi, who sustained severe bodily injuries, and the said driver, Ogwuike Christian, were both moved to a hospital and are responding to treatment and in a stable condition.”

He said the Enugu state Commissioner of Police, CP Abubakar Lawal, had ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to thoroughly investigate the incident and come up with actionable findings.

Halima Nwakaego, the daughter-in-law of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state, has advised mothers to test their domestic staff for HIV, TB, Hepatitis and other diseases.

The mom of twin boys who got married to Bashir El-Rufai in November 2020, took to her Instastory to give this advise on Sunday, July 24, after a nanny she recently hired tested positive for an undisclosed disease.

According to Halima, the nanny knew about her status but didn’t deem it fit to mention it until the test was conducted then she admitted that she has had the disease for seven good years.

Addressing mothers who plan to hire domestic staff, Halima wrote,

“Good morning mamas, please test all your nannies and workers. Most especially if you have babies. Run these tests HIV, Hep, TB, and many other. We recently got a nanny that knew she had one of these diseases and didn’t disclose it to us. We tested her, came back positive and she was pretending like she didn’t know she had it

After pressing on the matter she finally admitted that she’s had it for 7 years. Btw this isn’t the first nanny we are getting like this. So please run these tests before hiring anyone. Be safe.”

Tobi Amusan becomes first Nigerian to ever win gold as she breaks 100m hurdles world record (video)

It was a giant feat for Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan at the World Championships as she becomes the first Nigerian to ever win gold in the women’s 100m hurdles.

In the competition held in Eugene, Oregon, in the early hours of Monday, July 25, Amusan also broke the world record in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles.

She initially caught the attention of people after running an incredible 12.40 seconds in the first round of the game on Saturday (Sunday morning in Nigeria).

Amusan then took it a step further by running an unbelievable 12.12 seconds in the semifinals, thus emerging the winner of that round.

She was also the only Nigerian female 100m hurdles runner to make the penultimate round of the competition.

Amusan then smashed her own record again in the finale by running 12.06 seconds but it was later ruled ineligible as the wind speed exceeded the legal limit.

In other news, Nigeria also won her first gold medal at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, thanks to powerlifter, Latifat Tijani.

Latifat came top place in the women’s 45kg powerlifting on Thursday, August 26, after defeating China’s Zhe Cui to lift 107kg.

She was a gold medalist at the Brazzaville 2015 Africa Games and silver medalist at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

A viral video of a wife tackling her sisters-in-law for not helping with house chores has elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media.

In the trending clip, her husband’s sisters, three of them, were on their phones in the sitting room as she frantically scrambled to prepare dinner for the family after just getting back from the market.

At some point, she apparently couldn’t take them lazing around while she did all the work, so she confronted them and captured the moment on tape.

Confronting them, she noted that they never help with the house chores, as all they do is eat, relax, and be on their phones while they leave her to do all the work alone.

One of the ladies, who was visibly not having it, told the ranting wife that she’s in her husband’s house and it’s her duty to do the house chores without any help from them.

“See them, dem dey here they press phone, upon say I don go market come back, look at them, people that will get married tomorrow. When I talk they will say I’m a bad person. Big girls they cant cook, they will leave everything for me, they want to kill me with work in this house”. she said in part.

Tommy reportedly drowned at sea few hours after posting a video of himself chilling on a boat with his friends on Saturday, July 23.

13-year-old boy drowns in Lagos hotel swimming pool

The family of a 13-year-old boy, simply identified as Ebubechukwu, has been thrown into mourning after he drowned in a hotel’s swimming pool in Lagos.

According to reports, the teenager was returning home from school with some of his friends when they entered an abandoned hotel to have a swim.

It was said that since it was an abandoned facility, there were no lifeguards or staffers except for a security man at the entrance.

It was gathered that the security man usually charged tokens from intending users of the pool and ensured it was kept clean for them. Unfortunately, after the teenager drowned, the security man fled the scene and is currently at large.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the incident was reported at the Ago Police Station around 3:30pm on Friday, July 22.

He added that the information available to the command showed it was an abandoned hotel property.

This comes after a family’s three children drowned in a communal pool at their estate in Ajah on Sunday, June 12.

Punch reports that the couple had gone to an event when the three children left their house to swim in the pool.

According to an eyewitness, an alarm was raised after the three children were found motionless in the pool. They were immediately removed from the pool and rushed to the hospital where they were confirmed dead.

The Big Brother Naija season 7 has officially commenced and conversations have been buzzing on social media timelines.

One of the most controversial and popular reality star the TV show has produced, Natacha Akide, has asked the organizers of the show to seemingly pay her because of the blueprint and strategy she brought to the show during her time.

Tacha was disqualified during the “Pepper dem” season due to what some people described as “Volatile” character and other misdemeanours.

She eventually went on to become a successful celebrity after her participation in the show but she can’t help but notice that there’s always a ‘Tacha character’ in the seasons that have followed.

She made a video saying;

I need to know who is in charge of the Big Brother Naija marketing team because you can’t say you haven’t seen that since I left the house, every year back to back, there’s always a Tacha 2.0.. there’s always a Tacha that you are infusing. Fast-rising Nigerian singer, Olowu Taiwo, better known as Eltee Skhillz, fell off the stage while performing with Ghetto Kids at a show in Uganda recently.

In a trending video which captured the horrific fall, the music star who was performing his hit song “ODG” (Odogwu Na The Spender) with the kid dancers suddenly missed a step and tripped off stage.

He, however, quickly picked himself up and continued his performance.

In other news, two Nigerian ladies in Amsterdam were overtly excited when they recognised Nigerian superstar singer Davido, who had come to their store in disguise.

The singer had stepped out with his lawyer, Prince Bobo, in disguise to hunt for breakfast in the early hours of the morning.

However, despite trying to conceal his identity by hiding his face in a hoodie and a mask, Davido was still identified by the two Nigerian women.

One of the women who approached the singer asked that he take off his disguise as she recognised him.

The model/actress said that a lot of men have been unknowingly raising children that are not theirs, and she used the opportunity to share a personal experience about a friend who recently discovered that his 10-year-old son is not his.

A man has been caught on tape pleading with his wife’s sister to have quickie sex with him in a bathroom in exchange for an iPhone.

In the video filmed by someone who hid in the ceiling, the man was seen dragging his sister-in-law into the bathroom and pulled off his white shirt to expose his bare chest before begging her to sleep with him.

When she didn’t yield to his request, the man went down on his knees and starting begging her to give in to his advances for that one time.

When the man realized she wasn’t going to agree to his request, he promised to get her the iPhone she has been wishing to own in exchange for the sex.

Upon hearing his grand promise, the lady almost changed her mind but upheld her decision, while noting that she does not want to hurt her sister.

Yemi Alade reportedly denied Canadian visa for an event over fears that she might not leave the country

Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has been denied a visa to perform in Canada over fears she might not leave the country.

According to Le Devoir, the French-language newspaper published in Montreal and distributed in Quebec and throughout Canada, reports that the afro-pop superstar will be unable to perform at a festival’s final closing concert on Sunday.

The 33-year-old Singer is said to be one of the headliners of the Festival international Nuits d’Afrique. Commenting on the development, Suzanne Rousseau, the festival co-founder, said the visa denial was due to “financial reasons, and for fears that the group wouldn’t leave Canada.”

The Festival’s co-founder also lamented that the process of applying for a visitor’s visa has been difficult for “at least five years.”

In her words;

“Finally, we got an answer saying the musicians were refused, saying they have to guarantee that they have enough financial means that will make them go back to their country”.

The lady in a video detailing her experience in the “Giant of Africa” said there’s too much noise in the country and that people are not well organized.

She went on to recount how people she met tried to exploit her. According to her, people in Nigeria just want to collect money from people on the road.

She noted that she spotted a lizard in the hotel room, where she lodged during her visit, and that the cows she saw were scrawny and poorly nourished.

Meanwhile, Erik Gleibermann, an international journalist and cultural and literary critic, has averred that drivers in Lagos see red lights as annoying suggestions.

The social justice, who appears to be currently in Nigeria, stated this via his Twitter handle Thursday, July 7, while sharing his experience in the country’s commercial city.

He suggested that the majority of Lagos drivers violate traffic rules by running red lights.

“I am enjoying Lagos, though this feeling is tempered by the fact that drivers here regard red lights as annoying suggestions. #Lagos #Nigeria”, his tweet read.
