Ahead of today’s national conference of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), national working committee has dismissed the remarks attributed to the chairman of the conference planning committee, Dr Raymond Dokpesi.
Dokpesi had attributed the party’s dismal performance in the 2015 general elections to the fielding of Dr Goodluck Jonathan as sole presidential candidate.
Dokpesi had said:
“The party in 2010 and 2011 made the first round of mistake of not allowing the North to complete its term. That was when the party gave a special favour for the then President, who came to complete the term of Yar’Adua, to be allowed one term to finish.
But in his reaction yesterday, in Abuja, the national publicity secretary Olisa Metuh, told newsmen that the party chieftain could not speak for the party. Metuh said:
“That statement made by Chief Raymond Dokpesi is his personal opinion and does not represent in any way, an official position of the PDP.
In the first place, Dokpesi is not a member of the national executive of the PDP and he can only speak in his personal capacity; and his opinion remains personal and does not represent that of the party.
“The decision to field former President, Jonathan, in the 2015 presidential race was approved by the National Working Committee (NWC), the National Executive Council (NEC) and the party’s national caucus.
In addition, the constitution of party allows a sitting president chance to exercise his personal right to run for a second term, if he so desires.
“This is not the time for buck passing or blame game. We are repositioning our party. What we should do is to join hands to reposition PDP based on the report of the Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu committee, to reclaim the party’s lost glory.
This is what is expected of us all at this time.” Asked whether PDP regretted its action, Metuh stressed that the decision to field Jonathan was taken by all organs of the party.
“How can you regret a decision taken, where everyone was there – the NWC, NEC and the national caucus?
What are we talking about? Everybody was conscious of the decision. Nobody was coerced into supporting the position.”

A young but talented boy from Enugu state has constructed an aeroplane with the help of locally sourced materials.
Although the mini airplane has no engine, it looks like a real jet and even can contain two or three passengers.
See some photos of the amazing plane below:
However, while some people really admire such young talents, others expressed scepticism.
“Na wao… Can it fly? Cos aeroplane flies. Not putting metal together and giving it a shape of an aeroplane then bringing it to public viewing..When will Nigeria stop feeding on carcass of western worlds? Still kudos to the boy,” Amdoyin wrote.
“Great! Keep it up boy! If our country wants a future, they should pick boys like this and develop them immediately by sending them to abroad for further studies. This guy can begin building planes in the future for Nigerian Air plane Manufacturing Company N.A.M.C. I just coined that one!” Ideyontop noted.
“High time all these things are discouraged. No matter how hard they try, the art of aircraft manufacturing is not a one man thing, it requires high tech brains.”
“Maybe to join a toy-making company because that’s what I can see there. So many unknown people make toy cars, toy guns etc, so I don’t think this should be news. It’s not all about putting metals together and producing another toy; it’s about making something functional,” Jesumed wrote.

An 8-year-old boy is being charged with beating a 1-year-old girl to death while they were left home alone as their mothers went to a nightclub, Alabama police said Tuesday.
Birmingham police spokesman Sean Edwards said the boy beat and killed 1-year-old Kelci Lewis when she wouldn’t stop crying.
The mother of the toddler, 26-year-old Katerra Lewis, also is charged with manslaughter for her role in the death of her daughter.
“This is by far one of the saddest cases that I have witnessed and been a part of since I became a police officer,” Edwards said. “This type of irresponsibility on behalf of a parent is totally unacceptable,” he said.
Police said a murder warrant has been obtained for the boy who is now in the care of Alabama’s child welfare agency, the Department of Human Resources. His case will go through the family court system.
Edwards said the 8-year-old was the oldest of six children left alone as their mothers, Katerra Lewis and a friend, went to a nightclub on the night of Oct 11. The 8-year old is the son of Katerra Lewis’ friend. The friend has not been charged.
A 6-year-old who was in the home that night told police what happened, Edwards said, and the information was consistent with the toddler’s injuries.
Kelci Lewis suffered severe head trauma and major damage to her internal organs, police said.
Edwards said the 8-year-old is the youngest murder defendant he’s ever been aware of in the Birmingham area.
“I believe the 8 year-old is going to require some intense counseling for the next several years,” Edwards said.
He said the mother’s punishment is “something she has to live with for the rest of her life.”
Katerra Lewis has posted $15,000 bond.
Ahead of Wednesday’s (today) inauguration of 36 ministers-designate, there were indications on Tuesday that President Muhammadu Buhari, had reduced the number of federal ministries to 25 from about 29, Punch reports.
Under the new dispensation, the ministries of police affairs, aviation and special duties appear to have been scrapped while ministries of Lands, Housing, Urban Development and Works have been merged to become Ministry of Works and Housing.
Also, the information, culture, national orientation and tourism ministries have been collapsed into one Ministry of Information and Culture.
Also, the Ministries of Sports as well as Youth Development have also been merged to form Ministry of Sports and Youth Development. The Ministry of Aviation is now under the Ministry of Transportation, among other mergers.
The development came even as the President on Tuesday retired 17 permanent secretaries and announced the appointment of 18 new ones.
Indication that the President had settled for just 25 ministries was contained in the announcement of the appointment and deployment of permanent secretaries by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.
A new study reveals that those who hadn’t been on Facebook for a week were more satisfied with their lives, with 88 per cent of them describing themselves as happy.
The research carried out by the Happiness Research Institute, involved a sample of 1,095 people who were divided into two groups, half of whom continued using Facebook while the others stopped.
“We focused on Facebook because it is the social media that most people use across age groups,” Meik Wiking, HRI’s chief executive told AFP Tuesday.
After a week, those people who hadn’t been on Facebook said they were more satisfied with their lives, with 88 per cent of them describing themselves as “happy” compared with 81 per cent from the second group.
At the end of the experiment, the abstainers reported having a richer social life and fewer difficulties in concentrating, while the others reported no such change.
“Instead of focusing on what we actually need, we have an unfortunate tendency to focus on what other people have,” In other words, Facebook users are 39 percent more likely to feel less happy than non-users.

Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria, PDP, has appealed to Nigerians to forgive the party for its inadequacies during it’s 16 year rule. The party also said that fielding former President Goodluck Jonathan as the PDP candidate for the 2015 Presidential election was an error.
Speaking at a news conference in preparation of the PDP national conference, the Chairman, National Planning Committee of the conference, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, said asked Nigerians “to forgive and forget.”
He said:
We tender unreserved apology to Nigerians for the mistakes and to party members for abandoning the zoning principle of the party. We apologise to people whose toes were stepped upon.So far, whatever the PDP has done against anyone, we hereby tender an unreserved apology,”
“We are aware that there were errors we made. We admit that we made mistakes and we have not met the expectation of Nigerians and we tendered unreserved apologies for these mistakes.
“You must have seen the Ike Ekweremadu report on why we are apologising. There was no internal democracy. There was impunity within the party and there was no level-playing ground for members of the party.
“Zoning principles of the party were abandoned and gamuts of all other issues, which will come out during the conference and for all these and the people who have been offended; for people whose toes were stepped upon, we also tendered an unreserved apology.
“These are the reasons why we are begging and apologising. We want to assure every founding member of the party that we deviated from their visions. That is why we are going to have all our founding fathers, like Adamu Ciroma, Dr. Alex Ekwueme and other members of the G.34, to come and talk to us at the conference.
“For every and any mistake we have made, I therefore say, we tender our unreserved apologies.”
When asked if the mistake of the party included the fielding of the former President,Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate in 2015 poll, he said:
“The party in 2010 and 2011 made the first round of mistake of not allowing the North to complete its term.
“That was when the party gave a special favour to the then President (Jonathan), who came to compete the term of Yar’Adua, to be allowed to finish just a term.
“The same small leaders of the party came forward in 2015 and refused to allow the North to field the party’s presidential candidate. They manipulated the party to do the same.”
“Make no mistake, the PDP is aware that there were errors made along the way. We admit that at certain times in our past, mistakes have been made: we did not meet the expectations of Nigerians.
“But the past is exactly what it is. While we should not forget the past and its errors, we must look forward and begin to show true leadership within and outside our party.”
He said the forthcoming conference would be used to reinvigorate, re-engineer and restructure the party, which he said, would be handed over to the youth.
A five-year-old girl has accused five of her father’s colleagues of rape. The victim, it was learnt, was allegedly raped alongside her three-year-old sister.
According to PUNCH Metro, the victims and their father, Ayodele Ekundayo, who is a driver at a cement factory, lived in the same compound with the suspects who all work in the same company.
It was learnt that the company, which is located in the Fagba area of Lagos State, provided accommodation for its employees. It was learnt that the suspects – John Mahansi, Taiye Ojo, aka Ejima, Deji Adenekan, aka Orobo and Peter Irobo, aka Apako, are between the ages of 24 and 33.
Speaking at the Lagos headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the father of the victims said he was disappointed when he found out that his colleagues raped his daughters. He said since he had no wife, he usually left the little girls in the care of his colleagues.
Ekundayo said he discovered the alleged rape when his daughters started complaining about pains in their private parts. He said:
“Five days ago (on Thursday), my younger daughter ran to me and was shouting ‘pepper, pepper’ pointing to her private parts. She took off her pants and cried when I did not answer her. When I asked her who put pepper in it, she said it was Apako.
“I called her elder sister and she confessed to me and narrated all that happened. She said they (the suspects) threatened to kill them if they told me what was going on.
“Others did not talk when I approached them but Apako was shouting and threatening me when I challenged him. I am surprised they could do such a thing to my daughters. Those children are precious to me.
“At times, I take them with me to where we offload bags of cement when there is nobody to look after them. My older daughter told me that two drivers, Ejima and Orobo, used to touch her private parts while I was busy at work. I left my daughters with the security guards, Mahansi and Segun, whenever I was on night duty. I didn’t know that they were also defiling my daughters.”
The suspects, who were paraded by the NSCDC, however, denied the allegations. The five-year-old victim, however, told PUNCH Metro that she was indeed raped by the suspects.
The victim, who gave graphic details of her encounter, said one of the suspects instructed her to put his private parts in her mouth.
She said,
“Yes. Apako, John, Segun, Orobo and Ejima raped me. They put their ‘willy’ in my ‘bum-bum’ two times. They kissed me. It was only Apako that put his ‘willy’ in my sister’s ‘bum-bum.’”
A resident of Fagba, identified only as Dr. Solanke, was said to have informed a rights group, Ihuoma Girls Care and Support Initiative, about the incident and it later reported at the NSCDC command, leading to the suspects’ arrest on Monday.
The lifeless body of Corporal Agi Elias inside his car caused chaos yesterday, at the Police Training School, Ikeja, Lagos. It was gathered that the policeman, attached to Safer High Way Patrol, reportedly committed suicide at about 8p.m, Monday, after he missed an assessment exam held at the training school.
Empty cans of pesticide and some tablets, suspected to have been taken by the deceased, were reportedly found inside the car.
Vanguard learned that Elias, who was part of the policemen undergoing a promotional course that ended Monday, was trapped in traffic on his way from Badagry.
He got to the school, only to discover that the assessment exam conducted by a Commissioner of Police was over. Report said passionate pleas to the examiners fell on deaf ears.
The distraught corporal, as gathered called his wife on phone and informed her not to expect him back home again. He was also said to have told her to come and pick his corpse at the training college.
When Vanguard arrived the scene yesterday morning, Elias’ widow, family members, friends and colleagues were seen weeping profusely.
According to one of his course mates identified simply as Sanni:
“we have been here together since Friday on a training course. Yesterday, Elias was coming from his division in Badagry when he got trapped in traffic, which resulted in his missing the assessment exams.
“He begged the officer in charge to help him but they told him it was late and there was nothing they could do because it was the Commissioner of Police, CP Fatia Owoseni, that conducted the assessment exam.”
Another policeman, who spoke to Vanguard on the condition of anonymity, said:
“Even if he missed the assessment exams, that is not enough reason for him to take his life. His death is not ordinary.
“Elias was comfortable. He had two cars: an SUV and the Passsat in which he died and two houses in different parts of Lagos. He did not even think of his family, his wife and two children.”
A newspaper vendor, Bekky Onabanjo, who claimed to have seen the deceased park his vehicle Monday night, said:
“One of his legs was outside while the other was inside the car. He was there till we closed for the day at about 7p.m. I thought he was relaxing.
“It was this morning (yesterday) that we found his lifeless body already stiff inside his vehicle. There was also an empty can of a pesticide inside the car, suggesting he could have committed suicide.”
The command’s spokesman, Mr. Joe Offor, confirmed the incident.
I don’t know why they haven’t tried this stunt in Nigeria though. I’m certain my eagles eyes Yoruba brothers will see it in no time! Lol… No offense though *GRIN*.

PDP Dismisses Raymond Dokpesi’s Comments On Jonathan.
But in his reaction yesterday, in Abuja, the national publicity secretary Olisa Metuh, told newsmen that the party chieftain could not speak for the party. Metuh said:
