Since she had previously collaborated with the producer on the film “Sugar Rush,” which she thought to be a wonderful experience, she expressed her delight upon getting the screenplay for the movie.

Bimbo Ademoye however, found out that she had been cast as Teni, a role she did not anticipate, after ultimately reading the screenplay.

Bimbo at first assumed she would portray Gift since she could so easily identify with that character. To be sure there was no error, she double-checked the cast members’ names.

She made a few more calls to verify the casting, but she was given the assurance that it was accurate.

The producers informed her that while fans would anticipate her in a part similar to Gift, they had chosen to cast her in a different one.

As a result, Ademoye accepted the challenge and gave Teni’s persona her best effort.

“I paid outrageous amount to kidnappers for my father’s release” – Mikel Obi

Former Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, has explained that in 2018, he spent a “crazy amount of money” to gain the release of his father, Pa Michael, from a kidnapper’s lair.

Five years ago, the father of the football hero was kidnapped together with his driver, Ishaya John, as they traveled from Jos, Plateau State, to Enugu.

In an interview with Dubai Eye 103.8 Sport, he recalled how he learned of his father’s kidnapping roughly four hours prior to Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup match against Argentina.

He described how a family member instructed him to call the kidnappers on a specific number, which he did and was then told to pay a ransom.

The ex-Chelsea midfielfielder also revealed that although he was saddened by the news, he had to put it aside and play the match.

He said;

“I was emotionally distraught and I had to make the decision about whether I was mentally ready to play. I was confused. I did not know what to do but, in the end, I knew that I could not let 180 million Nigerians down. I had to shut it out of my head and go and represent my country first. I could not even inform the coaches or NFF staff and only a very tight circle of my friends knew.

I was told that they would shoot my dad instantly if I reported to the authorities or told anybody. I also did not want to discuss it with the coach [Gernot Rohr] because I did not want my issue to become a distraction to him or the rest of the team on the day of such an important game. As much as I wanted to discuss it with the coach, I could not.

The abductors then started calling the families to demand a ransom of N10 million but the operatives acting on intelligence information swooped on them. A gun duel ensued which forced the hoodlums to abandon their victims inside the forest and they were promptly rescued.

They [the kidnappers] said listen, we know, it is Mikel he would pay. If he doesn’t, we are going to shoot his dad. They said they had nothing to lose. They would shoot my dad and dump him somewhere.

It was horrible. After the game, I got back on the phone, tried to negotiate with them and spoke with them. They were calling some ridiculous amount of money for a start, and in the end, I still had to pay some crazy amount of money to get my dad out.

Even now, I still go through it. Even when I got a flashback, I had to speak to the guys on the phone. There was a gunpoint at his head. They said they would shoot him, kill him. I have not told my kids about it, but a few months ago, they looked at my phone and saw the news about it. Obviously, I have not told them about it because they are young kids, 7 years, but one day when they grow up, I will be able to share the story with them.”

Mother sentenced to life in prison for beating 4-month-old daughter to death over failed relationship with her father

A 29-year-old mother, Tradezsha Trenay Bibbs, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for beating her infant daughter to death.

Bibbs, from Houston, was sentenced on Monday, April 3, after being convicted of felony murder for the death of her 4-month-old daughter, Brielle Robinson, on April 16, 2016.

Bibbs had previously been convicted of capital murder, but that verdict was reversed and Bibbs was retried.

In 2016, authorities were called to the Red Carpet Inn on the Gulf Freeway, where they found Bibbs in a room with her baby, Brielle.

According to court documents filed at the time, Bibbs told officials she heard her daughter crying and picked her up by the arms and dropped her on the bed, causing her to fall to the floor. Bibbs then allegedly continuously struck her daughter in the face, chest, ribs, and legs until the child stopped crying.

The baby was later transported to Texas Children’s Hospital, where doctors determined she had suffered multiple fractures and severe head trauma.

Meanwhile, the mother had originally told authorities that Brielle had fallen from her car seat to the concrete, but later admitted making up that story.

She told police that after checking into the motel with the infant, a few hours later she started to not care about the child’s well-being and repeatedly dropped her on the mattress and “popped” her in the face.

Bibbs told police she punched the baby in the ribs and chest repeatedly until she stopped crying but called 911 once the baby stopped breathing.

Assistant District Attorney Keaton Forcht said Bibbs killed her daughter because the baby’s father no longer wanted a relationship with her.

During the trial, jurors heard evidence that emergency-room doctors said Bibbs did not seem interested in the baby’s medical care or the consequences for the fatal head injury she inflicted.

“Bibbs deserved a life sentence for what she did to her child,” Forcht said.

“She beat her countless times and seemed to care about as much about the death of her daughter as she did about the life of her daughter. Our office stands up for all victims, but a baby is the most innocent of victims. We believed that a life sentence was appropriate for this brutal murder”, Assistant District Attorney ADA, Napoleon Stewart added.

“Wole Soyinka can never be the man Chinua Achebe was” – Charly Boy

Veteran singer and social activist, Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy has criticized Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka for his comments criticising supporters of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign after making a statement denouncing Labour Party vice presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed.

Prof. Soyinka referred to Baba-Ahmed’s statement in an interview that swearing in a candidate who was proclaimed the winner without fulfilling constitutional requirements would put an end to democracy as “fascistic.”

However, he received harsh criticism for using the word “fascism” from Obi’s supporters, known as Obidients, and the prize-winning author retorted by arguing that their reluctance to accept criticism confirms his prior viewpoint.

“A climate of fear is being generated. The refusal to entertain corrective criticism, even differing perspectives of the same position has become a badge of honour and certificate of commitment.
What is at stake, ultimately is – Truth, and at a most elementary level of social regulation: when you are party to a conflict, you do not attempt to intimidate the arbiter, attempt to dictate the outcome, or impugn, without credible cause, his or her neutrality even before hearing has commenced. That is a ground rule of just proceeding. Short of this, Truth remains permanently elusive,”

he said in part.

Charly Boy responded to his statement by saying that he used to revere Soyinka almost as much as his late father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.

All of it, he claimed, is now lost since the esteemed poet has become little more than an errand boy for corrupt politicians.

He wrote;

“The kin respect I had for dis man, was almost the kind of respect I had for my stainless father, The Socrates of the Supreme Court.
It has finally dawned on me that Soyinka can never be the man Chinua Achebe was. Look at a man many Nigerians put on such high pedestal reducing himself to a boyiboyi for criminal politicians.

“The industry is not responsible for the decadence in society, society corrupts children because mothers are too busy to raise them” – Bimbo Akintola

Nigerian actress and talk show host, Bimbo Akintola has shared her opinion on the role that the movie industry has had in the growth of immorality in society.

She claimed that since the issue might be linked to improper parenting, Nollywood should not be held responsible for the activities that youngsters are doing in today.

In an interview with The Punch, Bimbo Akintola claimed that rather than inventing social vices, the movie industry only mirrored them.

In her words ;

“It is not true that movies are responsible for the decadence in society. Yes, the industry educates on what is going on in society; but, are you telling me that Nigerians don’t raise their children at home anymore? I remember my upbringing; and I know what was real and what was not. What is happening in society these days is that mothers are so busy. With existing realities, both parents have to make money to keep their children on a certain level of affluence.
Now, children are practically been raised by nobody. My mother raised us. She had a big shop which she usually closed at the same time with our schools. She was a millionaire, but she would always go home to be with us. But, parents cannot afford to do that anymore. Back then, a lot of mothers stayed at home, but mothers cannot afford that anymore. The industry is not what is affecting society. Rather, it is reflecting the problems in society.”

A Gambian pastor, Owen Abraham, has allegedly disappeared in Ibadan with 52 phones, money, and other items belonging to worshipers who had attended a crusade.

The religious leader, who claimed to have been guided by God to go from the Gambia to Ibadan, Oyo State, organized the crusade in Aponrin in the Agbowo neighborhood.

Abraham allegedly tricked the victims into three days of fasting and prayer, but on the final day of the crusade, he vanished after all attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.

According to the Nigerian News Agency, the pastor stated that the Holy Spirit told him to instruct everyone in attendance to turn in their phones, money, and other valuables on the last day of the crusade.

However, he was said to have left with those things.

Mrs. Grace Akintola, a widow, claimed that many widows joined the crusade because Abraham promised to provide each of them a bag of food, some cash, and scholarships.

She said;

“The pastor approached an Igbo lady in our area to assist him to gather widows and students, saying he wanted to help us. Someone in my area invited me for the crusade. He wore pastor regalia. He said he will buy a house for one of us and that the house will be fully furnished. He promised some people that attended the crusade money. Even politicians cannot give out such amounts he promised. On the last day of the crusade, he sold a bottle of water for us at the rate of N4,800. He said perfume is inside the bottle water. Many people paid for the water.”

Another victim, a student of University of Ibadan (UI) added; “the evangelist collected their phones so as to keep it away from them and focus on the prayers. Unknowingly, it was a trick to get our belongings. He said no phone should ring, that was why he collected all the phones. In fact, a lady stood up and wanted to take his photographs but he seized the phone from her. On the last day of the crusade, he said he wanted to go and rest at the hotel where he lodged. He later said he wanted to go and eat at UI; we don’t know how he escaped with our belongings. As a man of God, we respected him a lot, we didn’t know that he wanted to use the name of God to dupe us.”

Pastor Abraham’s name and image have been on posters that have been plastered and distributed across Aponrin, prompting villagers to declare him to be wanted.

A while ago, Eniola Badmus explained why people rarely talk about their struggles and mental health challenges.

Taking to Snapchat, the thespian recounting her personal experience, revealed that her friend downplayed her mental health issues and accused her of using it as an excuse.

According to her, this explains why people never open up because people don’t care about your struggles till you die.

Read as she wrote below,

“Hate the pretentiousness of people when they hear about death from depression and mental health-related issues. Suddenly they start to care and be sympathetic. Woe betides most people that do that. I remember speaking in confidence to a friend whose friend was supposedly helping me with some kind of work and things weren’t going her friend’s way.

Her friend had said to me I was using my mental health as an excuse and said to me she don’t care what I was going through. She had even gossiped about all I told her in confidence with her other friends
and they mocked me for it. Which was fine and really that’s why people don’t speak about mental health struggles and seeking therapy and that typa slot.

They think you deserve it because you must have done something wrong at some point in your life! Y’all is gross as slot! Moral lesson is people don’t care about your life struggles till you die. They’ll rather see you dead than help you as needed. For everyone struggling with mental health illness. You’re not alone and you will be fine.

Keep getting better and don’t let the stigmatization of mindless and empty-headed people stop you from seeking help when you need it. Someone will be courageous enough to stand by you.”
