You know how they say no matter how far you run away from the truth, it’ll always come back to you? Yeah well, that seems to be the case of a quite powerful property tycoon in China who has confessed that he robbed a bank 16 years ago and used the money to start up his “empire” which is now worth billions.
Peoples Daily Online reports that, Shi, the 53-year-old was arrested last week in the central China’s Zhumadian city for a crime he committed in December 1999.
At the time five armed suspects broke into a bank in the city of Zhengzhou, injuring two clerks and walking away with 2.8 million yuan (£290,000) in cash.
On the morning of October 21, more than 80 undercover police investigators rushed to the Zhumadian, Henan province, and arrested five suspects including billionaire Shi.
Shi is said to be well known in Zhumadian for being an extremely powerful and successful property tycoon.
He runs a number of businesses including industrial real estates, development and trade companies, and leisure farms. All earning him a fortune.
As well as property, he has billions invested in local businesses and often hosts regular charity events. All of this has influenced the community he lives in.
After he was arrested, Shi admitted to breaking into the bank armed with four suspects and stealing the money 16 years ago.
Shi told police, before the robbery in the early 1990’s he was not satisfied with his income as a construction worker. So he gathered a group of guys who were working as painters for a ‘secret job.’
Then for three months leading up to the raid they hatched a plan to rob the bank which included a well-designed escape route. Doing so they seriously injured a man was shot in the head and left in a pool of blood, and a woman. It is unclear what happened to her.
The whole process which involved the suspects dressed as business men took just five minutes. It was a case that shocked the whole country as no one has ever been arrested since it took place in 1999.
Many of the investigators working on the case are now retired but they never gave up. From a list of 158 suspects they eventually narrowed it down to five.
16 years later the Zhengzhou City Public Security Bureau held a press conference to confirm the mystery of the 1999 bank robbery had successfully been solved.
A vital piece of evidence in the investigation was a hammer that was used to brake the bullet proof glass during the raid.
The police managed to track down its manufacturer which led them to a market in Zhengzhou where they were sold. 24 had been bought in the time leading up to the robbery.
Investigators tracked down the whereabouts of 16 hammers which left eight unaccounted for, which eventually led them to the five suspects.
The authorities in Zhengzhou said Shi – a construction project contractor who regularly hosted charity events – claimed most of the money from the robbery and used it to develop his real estate in the southern Chinese city of Zhumadian, earning him billions.
The commotion along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, and Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos State, on Thursday took a new dimension as some motorists stuck in traffic passed out.
Some of the motorists, which included a pregnant woman, were seen by eyewitnesses being carried out of their vehicles in frantic bids to resuscitate them.
The traffic congestions were said to have been caused by accidents involving trailers conveying goods on the roads.Although no life was lost in the two accidents, the trailers blocked the roads and rendered them impassable for hours.
According to PUNCH Metro learnt that the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident occurred around 5am at the Arepo U-turn.
An Iveco truck, with number plate, Kano XB 103 FG, conveying soya beans to Ibadan, Oyo State, crashed against the median at the U-turn.
It was learnt that the propeller of the vehicle had snapped and the driver had lost control of the truck when the accident happened. It was learnt that the traffic stretched as far as Ikeja, Lagos.
A victim, who asked not to be named, said he spent about four hours on the road and had struggled to drive himself safely to the office. He said:
“I had got to Ikeja, when I realised there was traffic congestion on the expressway. I tried to drive through the inner roads, but as I was about to burst out at Berger, I discovered the road was completely blocked.
“I started feeling dizzy at that point but I tried to pull through and drive through the traffic. As I drove into my office compound, I lost control of myself and people started pouring water on my head.”
A witness, who identified himself as Idris, said he observed a passenger in an interstate bus being fanned after she passed out.
He said:
“I was in a bus on the Warewa bridge when I saw people fanning a woman, who had passed out. I could not wait to see if she made it or not.”
Another witness, Motunrayo, said a pregnant woman in a commercial bus was observed vomiting.
“She could not bear it any longer. She kept vomiting as people tried hard to save her. She vomited to the point that she became weak. I just hope she did not die,” she said.
A road contractor, Arowolo Oloyede, said he had lost a contract worth millions of naira as a result of the traffic snarl.
He said:
“I just lost a business worth millions of naira now. I have been on this road since 8am and I am just arriving at the accident point at 1pm. I think there is no point again. I have parked my car at the roadside and will be turning back.”
Mariam Ekanem, a 20 year old school drop out hailing from the Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, said yesterday in Calabar that poverty and lack of accommodation after delivering her baby made her sell the two weeks old baby girl for N20,000.
According to Vanguard, Maria, who was arrested by the police along five other accomplices, said her boyfriend who got her pregnant, asked her to abort the baby but said a doctor helped her with free antenatal care and food until she gave birth.
This, she added, prompted her to agree to sell the baby when arrangements were made to sell.
Paraded along with Maria were a 55-year-old medical doctor, Okokon Offiong Okoho, the proprietor of Evangel Clinic,of 2, Atu Street; a 70-year-old matron of Sadatoe Maternity located at Umoh Street and a nurse at the maternity who allegedly made the plans to sell the girl to an Abuja-based lady who is now on the run.
However, plans to sell the two weeks old girl was leaked to the police by a Senior Secondary Two girl of NYSC
Demonstration Secondary School, Calabar , Maria Elemi, whose parents Maria was living with after she delivered the baby.
“When I came back from school on Monday, Maria told me she wanted to take the baby to the parents of the boy who impregnated her since she can no longer cope with taking care of the baby,” she said.
Maria said when they got to Fuller by Inyang Street in Calabar South, they met Mrs Elemi and her daughter in an SUV car, adding that Maria gave the girl to the matron who handed her over to the buyer.
She said:
“The woman gave Maria N20,000 and asked her to pay the nurse at the Evangel Clinic and use the rest for herself.”
The girl said she became suspicious when the driver of the SUV told the woman with the baby that her husband said she should take her to the airport to catch a flight to Abuja .
“I started wondering why they should take the girl to the airport when the boyfriend to Maria and her parents live here in Calabar,” Maria stated.

The Highly populated Republic of China, the country said to have quarter of the world’s population, has reportedly put an end to its one-child policy and will allow couples in the country to have two children.
This is driven by fears that an aging population could jeopardize the country’s economic ascent and put too much pressure on the aged.
The Communist Party leadership ended its decades-old “one child” policy on Thursday, announcing that all married couples would be allowed to have two children.
The one -child policy was imposed by Deng Xiaoping, the Chinese leader in late 1979 and couples who break the family planning laws face losing their jobs and being fined. In some cases, mothers have been forced to abort their babies or be sterilized.
According to the National Health and Family Planning Commission, which enforces the policy,
Abolishing the one-child policy would “increase labor supply and ease pressures from an aging population,”“This will benefit sustained and healthy economic development,” the commission said.

The startled American star could be seen in an awkward encounter with a Calvin Mitchell, who claimed to have been raised by the presenter before they became estranged 20 years ago.

Several mornings in Boarding school, I stood tall and scrawnily thin in the cold dark early mornings, doing rub and shine with two bowls of ice cold water. Water that I mostly had to tap from under everyone’s bunks in the middle of the night. I guess you could say I been baffing cold long time. I am used to this shit!

Four fake soldiers have reportedly been arrested at the Idi-Araba, Agege and Mile 2 areas of Lagos state by Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni.
The Nation reports that the crime suspects apprehended are John Izunwanne, 25, John Otu, 23, Richard Acha, 22, and Simon Anthony, 39.
Materials recovered from them included: two pairs of the Nigerian Army camouflage uniform; a pair of Army uniform, Army camouflage T-shirt, a pair of boots, two Army belts and two jungle hats.
Anthony told reporters that he was dismissed from service as a corporal for falling out from duty.
“I was dismissed in January 2014 for falling out from duty. I am from Adamawa state. I wanted to use the uniform to travel to Lagos because I had no transport money. But unfortunately, I was arrested by soldiers,” he said.
Acha, a welder from Benue State, said he found the camouflage T-shirt inside the bag his brother gave him at Ikeja cantonment said
“I wore it. I was arrested for wearing the army T-shirt,” he said.
Izunwanne said he bought the uniform at Ojo Cantonment on September 2. He said:
“I wanted to go and sign my army recruitment form at Ojo Barracks when I bought the uniform at the Mammy Market. However, on October 7, my friend had a court case and I was to appear in court as a witness. The court was in Agege and I did not have the transport fare to go, so, I decided to wear my uniform to save me the cost of transportation.”
Otu, a member of the Citizen for Peace and First Aid Missions in Nigeria, said he heard his friends were arrested and went to the police to secure their bail, only to be arrested for wearing the uniform.

Actor and model Sam Sarpong, known for co-hosting MTV’s “Yo Momma” with Wilmer Valderrama, died Monday, his rep confirmed. He was 40.
Sarpong died after jumping off a bridge in Pasadena, Calif., according to E! News. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner has ruled his death a suicide, with an autopsy pending.
“It is with great sadness that the family of Samuel Sarpong, Jr. must share the news that Sam has passed away,” said his publicist in a statement.
“The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation and no additional details are known at this time. Information about final arrangements will be forthcoming. The family appreciates the thoughts prayers and other expressions of sympathy, and request their privacy be respected at this extremely difficult time.”
“Sarpong had a pure heart and always went out of his way to help others,” his rep, J.D. Sobol, told Variety. “We will all miss him dearly.”
The British-American star was born in London and moved to Los Angeles with his father when he was 11. He would go on to book modeling work, including being the face of Tommy Hilfiger for six years, as well as walking runways for Versace, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Donna Karen.

PDP senators reportedly walked out of the senate in protest of Amaechi’s ministerial confirmation.

Popular “Crack ya ribs” ace Comedian, Julius Agwu, has revealed newly that he has re-dedicated his life to God after he survived a brain surgery few months ago.
The 42 year old also vowed to live a Christian life from now on after he was given a second chance from God.
City People reports that, he disclosed that he would be opening a Christian nightclub called Believer’s Lounge (Tabernacle) at Lekki in two months time.
He said there will be no alcohol and smoking in his lounge.
The Comedian is also going to launch a TV show which he calls C.E.O (Christian Entertainer’s Outreach) and is to release a gospel song titled Second Chance.

On Wednesday, 28th of October, 2015, students of IMG Secondary School, Oke Ado in Ibadan, went on rampage following the death of one of their colleagues who was allegedly flogged to death by one of their teachers.
The student reportedly slumped and gave up the ghost as a result of the severe punishment from a teacher for arriving late to school.
Invaluable properties of the school were destroyed by the students who took to protest before the members of Nigerian police force came to rescue the situation.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained as at press time while policemen had cordoned off the area.
An eye witnesses who claimed anonymity said
“trouble started when the student arrived school after classes had commenced for the day, he reportedly told the teacher he came late due to illness.”
“At that point,” the eye witness added, “the principal, who was passing by asked the teacher the cause of the discussion.”
The principal allegedly ordered the teacher to flog the student for coming late and in the process of the flogging, the student slumped.
“All our efforts to save the student proved abortive,’’ the eyewitness added.
No fewer than 10 fully armed policemen were seen on surveillance at the premises of the school with three of their vehicles parked near the school gates.
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II has reportedly sacked Chiroma of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Bayero after he allegedly refused to pay homage to the emir. He is the eldest son of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.
The Emir has appointed the District Head of Dala, Alhaji Nasiru Bayero to replace him as the new Chiroma.
A statement made available to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday confirmed.
According to the statement signed by the Galadiman Kano and Senior Councillor in the Emirate, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, the former Chiroma, who was also the District Head of Gwale, was removed following his refusal to pay homage to the Emir, since he was appointed on June 8, 2014.
“It is against the Sharia and the traditional institution for any District Head and member of the Emirate Council to refuse to pay homage to the Emir.
“The former Chiroma was a district head and a member of the Emirate council, hence the decision to remove him,” “As you are all aware, since the demise of the late emir and the appointment of his successor on June 8, 2014, all traditional title holders, including District Heads and others, had cringed to pay their respects and homage to Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the new emir, with the exception of the sacked Ciroman Kano.
“It is in view of this development that His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, took the decision to confirm the appointment of Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero as the new Ciroman Kano.”
