The police at the Maroko Division, Lekki, Lagos, have arraigned a truck driver, Yohanna Amos, 32 and his conductor, Baba Muibi, 25 before a Lagos magistrates’ court, for allegedly assaulting five Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) who were on lawful duty by using wooden planks to beat them and inflict injuries all over their body and head.
The police identified the victims as Anjorin John Olufolahan, Idowu Femi, Onanuga Adeleye Sunday, Sifawu Timirisiya and Tijani Rasak.
Police prosecutor, Sgt Nicolas Akpene informed the court that the accused persons committed the offence on 29 March, 2016 along Ligali Ayorinde Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Akpene told the court presided over by Magistrate, Mr P.A Adekomaiya, that the injured VIO officers stopped a truck with registration number, FKJ 402 XS driven by the first accused and demanded for his driving licence and vehicle papers but instead of the accused to obey and produce the documents he and his conductor descended on the officers with wooden planks and inflicted serious injuries on them for daring to ask them to produce vehicle documents.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the police allegations and magistrate Adekomaiya admitted them to bail in the sum of N20,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

A teenage girl has died after being hit by a train while taking a selfie just inches from a railway track.
Photos from the scene show the girl just seconds before the train hit her – after allegedly ignoring warnings from other tourists to move back.
The unnamed 19-year-old can be seen in photos of the scene in Foshan, a city in South China’s Guangdong Province, as she holds out her mobile phone in front of herself to take the perfect selfie.
Dressed in a white top and blue skirt, the victim, however, took her picture project one step further by straying too close to the railway tracks, and on more than one occasion let blaring locomotives pass near her until she was finally struck by a freight train.
As can be seen from the photograph, the girl’s lifeless body was flung to one side of the tracks following the fatal accident.
Reports citing witnesses said that bystanders had actively asked the girl to keep a safe distance from the tracks. But the victim had reportedly ignored all warnings.

An estate developer, Ausbet Udebu, has accused doctors at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Mushin, Lagos, of professional misconduct. The doctors’ action, he claimed, led to the death of Ngozi, his wife on March 28.
Udebu, 56, alleged that the physician diagnosed and treated his late wife of ulcer, but the autopsy showed that she died of Asphyxia.
Asphyxia is the loss of consciousness due to the body’s inability to deliver oxygen to its tissues.
Reliving the incident, Udebu said he and his family had gone to celebrate Good Friday at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Yaba, Lagos Mainland when his daughter called him that their mother had severe stomach pain.
“We rushed her to LUTH around 9pm with my wife writhing in pains. She underwent some tests/scan and the results were ready before 7am the following day.”
Udebu said he took the results to the doctors, and was asked to wait until they were ready for ward rounds.
He said:
“After about 90 minutes, a doctor finally turned up, checked her and said the scan revealed some trace of ulcer. The doctor prescribed Gascol and an injection which were not available at LUTH. I bought the prescribed drugs. Still, there was no relief. The doctor then prescribed another brand of injection called IV NEXIUM. Again, I bought it.”
The bereaved husband said the emergency unit where his wife, 46, was kept had no light, fan and good ventilation.
He said he used his phone flashlight to assist the doctor in finding his wife’s vein, adding that he fanned her because she was sweating profusely and had difficulty breathing because of the stuffy room.
“My wife was moved to the female ward later where I was told that no patient relation was allowed to stay. Even her younger sister volunteered to stay and help her out in case of any need but the nurses refused, saying it was against the hospital’s policy.
“During this time, my wife’s condition deteriorated to the extent of needing oxygen. I bought an oxygen mask to help her breathe. In her weak state, my wife pleaded with the nurses to permit me or her younger sister to be with her through the night, but her plea was equally turned down. ‘Daddy, don’t go’ was the last words I heard her say. I felt dejected as I was forced out of the ward around 11pm.”
Udebu said he got to the hospital the following day around 6am with his eldest daughter “and we got the shocker of our life”.
“The curtain over her bed was already drawn. Immediately I suspected something eerie. I did not want to believe my wife and mother of my four children was no more. I was told my wife died in the early hours of that morning. Nobody contacted the family when she passed on. Everything about LUTH is wrong. A ward with more than 35 patients with only two nurses available to attend to them. It was later I learnt any patient who registered in any of the doctors’ private clinics will have an army of doctors attending to him/her because he/she has paid in the doctor’s private clinic.”
The Udebu’s in law, Quincy Opara, said:
“The doctor concluded that her death was caused by ulcer even before an autopsy was carried out. The result of the autopsy came out, to the surprise of everybody, it stated that she died of asphyxia. What is the relationship between asphyxia and ulcer which was the doctor’s ‘diagnosis’?
“This is shameful and above all disgraceful for Nigeria’s prime health institution. The nurse on duty when confronted that they may not have known when she passed on said that she passed on at 3am. She claimed that they battled to save her life.”
The body of Mrs Udebu, a teacher at St. Finbarr’s College, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos Mainland, has been deposited in a morgue in Delta State.
LUTH spokesperson Mr. Kelechi Otuneme said he was aware of the incident.
“I cannot say anything; management is looking into the matter”, he said.
Nollywood movies amuse me as much as they frighten me. I spent a greater part of my childhood watching them and over time, certain movie scenes shaped the way I behave.

A mother whose neglected daughter died in agonizing pain after she was eaten alive by ants has been jailed for 30 years.
Luna Estefania, was just 18 months old when she was found starving and severely ill at home in the southern Mexican city of Chihuahua.
She was taken to hospital but died two months later.
Her mother, Mariana Lizeth Salas Hernandez, 20, was arrested over the death after concerned neighbours told police that the toddler was often left on her own. She was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison by a federal judge.
Investigators told how Hernandez simply did not take care of her daughter, even neglecting to feed her for 15 days at the end of April and beginning of May in 2014.
The toddler had also been left paralysed as a result of a fall she suffered while her mother was not looking after her. The girl also sustained a head injury when she was just two months old.
When she was found by police and social services, Luna Estefania was described as being severely malnourished and covered in ants who had eaten parts of her body.
She was immediately taken to hospital but later died. Medics said the toddler must have endured agonising pain in her final months.
It comes just days after a four-month-old baby was chewed to death by rats after her 18-year-old mother left her at home to go to a party in Acolman, Mexico.
Residents of Alhaji Aboki Street in Abaranje area of Ikotun have been thrown into confusion, following the discovery of the lifeless body of a 40-year-old resident known simply as Femi, in an uncompleted building.
Late Femi was said to have committed suicide out of frustration and his inability to get married at 40.
The incident occurred barely two months after he was evicted from his one -room apartment on 27, Alhaji Aboki Street.
Vanguard gathered that late Femi, popularly known as Fela, had earlier attempted to take his life twice. A resident, who gave his name as Okeseun Olatunde, disclosed that
“Femi was evicted by his landlord in February, after he was discharged from hospital, following a failed suicide attempt. “On one of the occasions he jumped into a well but was rescued.
After the second failed suicide attempt, his landlord asked him to bring his relatives, but none showed up. He had said severally that he was related to late Fela Anikulapo Kuti. “We also learned he owed the landlord house rent.
The landlord had no choice than to evict him, with his property kept outside. He (Femi) took the property to the uncompleted building where he stayed until he was discovered dead last Friday. We suspect he committed suicide.”
Another resident, Josiah Madu, who said late Femi was a bricklayer, disclosed that he had complained severally that business was not forth-coming and that he desperately wanted to get married. Madu said:
“He told some of us in March last year that every woman he approached for marriage complained about his financial status. At a point, he started keeping to himself.”
Police sources hinted that investigation into the cause of the death had begun.

Young girls snatched from their villages by fighters from the world’s deadliest terror group, Boko Haram, are volunteering to be suicide bombers to escape hunger and rape.
For the thousands of schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram, having explosives strapped to their bodies or hidden in a basket on their heads is the only chance of escape.
Three quarters of all child bombers are girls.
Fati, 16, who managed to flee to the Minawo refugee camp in Camaroon after being kidnapped and raped by Boko Haram fighters told CNN the girls would compete with each other to be picked for the deadly mission.
She said:
“They came to us to pick us. They would ask, ‘Who wants to be a suicide bomber?’The girls would shout, ‘me, me, me.’ They were fighting to do the suicide bombings.”
But instead of choosing death, Fati said volunteering for these missions was often the only hope these young girls had of getting away.
She added:
“If they give them a suicide bomb, then maybe they would meet soldiers, tell them, ‘I have a bomb on me’ and they could remove the bomb. They can run away.”
Fati, who was kidnapped and raped in 2014, was herself freed when her fighter ‘husband’ defected and tried to flee over the border.
But for the girls who do escape, life can be incredibly difficult as they are shunned and ostracised by civilians who are worried they could be hiding bombs.
Mohammed Amodu, a refugee leader told CNN:
“If we see a strange girl, she may be a suicide bomber. Perhaps their mind is with Boko Haram.”

Pastor T. B. Joshua’s says an attack is imminent in Nigeria and Ghana very soon. The popular Lagos based prophet has asked members of his Church to pray against planned ‘foreign attacks’ on both countries.
According Yen.com.gh, TB Joshua made the prophesy while speaking during his Church’s service, which was beamed live on Emmanuel TV on Sunday, April 10.
A 2:56s video culled from the live sermon on Sunday, shows the prophet urging thousands of his SCOAN congregants to begin sporadic prayers for the two countries in order to scuttle the ‘evil plans’ of the unnamed attackers.
The Prophet was even specific on days on which the attackers will strike, predicting the attacks will take place at gathering of people.
“I am seeing Thursday, Friday, Saturday – if I may say Thursday – because these evil people they are very funny. Anything can just happen. You will be very shocked to see what will happen, because when the prayer is going in this direction they [attackers] change to [another] direction.
“I see Thursday, Friday. Pray for these two nations – Nigeria and Ghana – over gathering in any way; over attack. I am seeing attack and that will be in a foreign way. The attack will come not in a local way. So please open your lips and pray for these two nations for protection” he told congregants.
He would however not state whether the said Thursday or Friday or Saturday would be in this month or the next, explaining “not necessarily this week, because it is a battle between the evil spirit and the holy spirit.”

He had allegedly ordered a photographer last year to take a nude picture of Mame Kesewah in their bedroom.
The pastor who had two kids with the ex-lover, then posted the nude pictures on social media which caught the attention of many in the town.
Kesewah, recounting what happened on the duty the photos were taken, said that her face had been wiped with something by the pastor, shortly before the the photographer came into their room.
She then became unaware of what transpired thereafter until Sunday evening when a friend came to inform her that her naked pictures were everywhere on social media.
The Chief of Dokrokyiwa, Baffour Anom who confirmed the incident to Ghanaian paper, Daily Guide, said the incident uncle of the pastor came to his palace on Monday and reported that, the pastor after divorcing his wife last year, posted the lady’s nude pictures on social media.
After his attention was drawn to this, he then ordered the arrest of the pastor and the photographer by the Kraboa Coaltar police.
When contacted about the matter, Ayensuano District Police confirmed that the suspects are currently in their custody and will be arraigned before a judge soon.
