Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5.
Witnesses report that the attack began at 10 p.m. and lasted for more than an hour before security personnel repelled the terrorists who broke into the facility with explosives.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, who confirmed the attack, said about 600 inmates fled the prisons following the attack.
According to Belgore, those behind the attack were Boko Haram terrorists who came specifically for their members held in the custody.
“There have been several attacks on our facilities most of them are being repelled, but every now and then, there is one that they have succeeded. In this is one they came very determined with high explosives.
“The initial entry attempt was unsuccessful, then they attacked another section of the wall with higher grade explosives which brought the wall down.
“The forces on the ground did everything they could to repel them but the number they came with was high which they were not able to defend against. They kept on fighting gallantly unfortunately the breach happened. Reinforcement came when they were halfway through it. They were eventually repelled.
“At the time they came in they killed one NSCDC operative while trying to save the situation. The inmates here are 994.
“We understand they are Boko Haram terrorists and came specifically came for their conspirators. Many of them have returned, some were retrieved from the bushes they were hiding, right now we have retrieved about 300 out of about 600 that got out of the jail.” He told news men.
Photos from the correctional facility after the attack on Tuesday night have been shared online.
About 600 inmates have reportedly escaped from the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja after the facility was attacked on Tuesday evening.
Some unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists stormed the prison around 10pm on Tuesday, July 5, and launched an attack on the facility.
The spokesman of the Nigerian Correctional Service, AD Umar, who confirmed the incident disclosed that calm has now been restored to the facility.
His statement reads,
“I wish to confirm that about 2200hrs, some yet-to-be-identified gunmen attacked the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje in the Federal Capital Territory.
However, men of the Armed Squad of the Nigerian Correctional Service and other security agencies attached to the Custodial centre have responded and calm has been restored to the facility and the situation is under control.”
In a follow-up report, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Mr Shuaibu Belgore, has disclosed that about 600 prisoners escaped during the attack.
Belgore who visited the facility on Wednesday morning, said the facility houses 994 inmates and over 300 inmates have been caught while the rest will soon be apprehended.
He further disclosed that the assailants are suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists who attacked the facility to rescue their colleagues.
Nigerian singer and music executive, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reacted after his hype man, Special Spesh, was wrongly introduced during an interview.
Special Spesh was recently interviewed by Juicy J on Smade TV in line with the Afronation show. However, during the interview, he was introduced as Davido’s official DJ.

A while back, Special Spesh took to his social media page to share his opinion on identity change.
Spesh said it is “wild AF” that people can choose what they want to be identified as.

Spesh was probably reacting to the news of Young Nigerian man who shared his mother’s reaction after he used a photo of him dressed like a girl as his WhatsApp profile picture.
In the photo, the young man was dressed in a high school girl uniform, a blonde wig and fully made-up face. However, it is unclear if he is a crossdresser or the outfit was his Halloween costume.
Reacting to this, his mom expressed her disapproval with the outfit and pleaded with him to stop the ‘nonsense’.
A 42-year-old man, identified as Ibukun Olusola Olajide, has been declared missing by the Ekiti State Police Command.
Olajide was said to have left his house in Ado-Ekiti on Friday evening, July 1, to attend a wedding in Ibadan but never arrived at the party.
According to the spokesperson of the command, DSP Sunday Abuku, Olajide was last seen after he left home and all efforts to find him has been futile.
Anyone with useful information about his whereabouts has been instructed to contact the nearest Police station.

“While the Command has commenced investigation into this report, anyone with useful information concerning his whereabouts should contact the nearest Police Station or call 09064050086”
A Nigerian man on Twitter, Chinedu Ihekwoaba, has stirred reactions after he revealed the trivial reason he broke up with his girlfriend.
Chinedu, who questioned how young girls are raised in today’s society, claimed that his relationship with his girlfriend ended when he saw her watching his mother sweep without offering to help.
Apparently, the young woman had paid a visit to her man in his home and met his mother sweeping. Rather than helping with the chore, she sat and watched the old woman complete her task.
The young man was enraged by this and broke up with her as a result.

The management of veteran Nigerian singer, Eedris Abdulkareem, has called for prayers for the singer as he is set to undergo kidney transplant.
In a statement released on the Instagram page of the ‘Nigeria Jaga Jaga’ crooner on Wednesday afternoon, June 6, it was disclosed that Eedris was recently diagnosed with kidney failure and has been undergoing dialysis in a hospital in Lagos.
His management has now appealed to Nigerians to pray fervently and send in their well wishes to the singer.

The governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State, Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor, has dismissed speculations making the rounds that Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, popularly known and called ‘Jenifa’, has been chosen as his deputy in the 2023 polls.
Jandor made the clarification following trending report on social media on Wednesday, claiming that he had finally settled for Akindele as his Deputy.
When contacted for clarification, Jandor simply dismissed the report, saying “I haven’t chosen nor announced Funke Akindele as my running mate.
“However, that stage will come in due course when an official public announcement will be made.”
One of the suspected ritualists who allegedly killed a young girl, Nkemdili Eze, in Enugu state, said the girl was sacrificed because their deity needed the blood of a virgin to be powerful.
The suspect, identified simply as Agbo, made the confessional statement shortly after he was caught by the neighborhood personnel in connection with the crime, Vanguard reports.
The suspect said that Ifeanyi Onyishi, a native doctor, ordered him to bring Nkemdili to him for the sacrifice after he recommended her. The suspect and his accomplice, Ifeanyi Onyishi, also known as Aro bi n’agu, were both burned to death by an angry mob.
The Neighbourhood official quoted late Agbo as saying;
“Ifeanyi didn’t like the fact that I was being caught most of the time I went for robbery operations. He was looking for a way to fortify his deity. One day, he told me that he had brought an abandoned deity named Idenyi, to his shrine.
I was shocked to hear that from him. I asked him if he knew how to appease the deity. He equally told me that he needed the blood of a virgin to make the deity powerful. That was why he asked me to bring someone to her and I recommended Nkemdili.
So, there was a masquerade festival in my village. A day before the festival, I searched for Nkemdili but without success.
However, a day after the festival, I was in the bush smoking Indian hemp when she passed. I quickly notified Ifeanyi and he moved to the location with another suspect who I didn’t recognize.
“When they got there, his friend stopped her, while Ifeanyi covered her mouth and they took her into the bush. I followed them also.
“After the sacrifice, he promised he was going to settle me very well. He said he was going to sell a portion of his land to give me a huge sum of money that would make me not to expose him.”

A cabman has narrated how he handled a “Lekki babe” who refused to stop brushing her hair in his car despite telling her not to.
The man identified as Oni Foto took to Facebook to recount his experience on Tuesday, June 5.
According to him, he picked up the lady around 12 midnight and she started brushing her hair in his car which he didn’t find comfortable so he politely told her to stop.

Nollywood actress, Lizzy Onuwaje popularly known as Lizzy Gold, has revealed that she was robbed and almost killed by traffic robbers in Anambra state recently.
The thespian in a video shared on her Instagram page narrated in details how the incident occurred and advised people to be security conscious.
She also vowed never to travel at night again after the horrifying experience she had with the armed robbers.

I told him I saw other cars passing through the same lane. The next thing, I wanted to wind up and he put my hands down and came in. Brought his head inside. My PA was seated beside me. His partner went to the other side of the window. So, the guy brought his head inside the car and said, if you make any noise, I will shoot you.
He brought a gun and pointed at my stomach and told me to bring out everything that I have. He said I should give him my phone. I told him to take money instead of my phone because he would not be able to use the iPhone. I brought money out, as I was giving it to him. He said I should tell my brother to bring out all the money he has. I told him the PA is not with any money. I begged them after they threatened to kill me.”

A woman captured the horrifying moment lightning struck her husband’s truck with him and their kids inside on Friday evening, July 1.
The husband, Edward Whalen, and his family were driving down from St. Petersburg and heading back to their hotel when the unexpected occurred.
The lightning strike was captured by his wife, Michaelle, who was traveling in another vehicle that was trailing Whalen and their children in the truck.
According to Whalen,
“She (Michaelle) thought the storm was really neat looking and so she wanted to get a picture of it and she kept trying to snap pictures, she couldn’t catch it. So my son-in-law recommended she use that slow motion video. That’s when she caught the big moment.”
“You could feel a slight buzz in the car when it hit us, and then my oldest daughter was sitting next to me and she jumped halfway in my lap and screamed. She [Whalen’s daughter] yelled daddy what happened and I said we got hit by lightning,” he added.
Thankfully, no one in the vehicle was injured, but the truck was “completely fried” by the lightning strike.
Speaking further, Whalen said,
“I had to jump out of the truck and run back to her and hold her and let her know we were all fine. We were really confused. We had real bad headaches. That was always my dream truck, and I finally got it. I had just made my third payment on it and then boom. Hopefully, it’ll work out though.”
Whalen said he’s just glad they’re alive.
“It was pretty wild. After everything was done, my son said we needed to check ourselves in a couple days for super powers.” He said.
A young Nigerian man, Gidado Abubakar Auta, and his pregnant wife, Amina Ahmad, have died in a fire that gutted their home in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The couple, who were both medical doctors and until their death worked at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), are said to have suffered severe burns in the fire accident in their home three days ago.
The husband, Dr Gidado, died on Tuesday, July 5, while his wife died on Wednesday morning, July 6.
Dr. Gidado Abubakar Auta was a Senior Registrar in Radiology, while the late Amina was a house officer.
Gidado was buried according to Muslim rites on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022. The funeral prayers for the late Dr. Amina will be held by 10 a.m. on Wednesday, opposite the Satus Hotel, Lagos Street, Maiduguri.
Families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased couple have since taken to social media to pen touching tributes to them.
A close friend of the deceased, Isyaku Baba wrote on Facebook,
“It is with grave shock that we recieved the deaths of Dr Amina Ahmad (House Officer) and wife of Late Dr Auta Gidado, both which were lost to fire inferno.
The husband, Late Dr Auta was confirmed dead yesterday while the wife followed her beloved this morning.
The couples worked with the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Gidado Abubakar Auta was a Senior Registrar, Radiology. He was one of the finest Resident Doctor in the Department of Radiology University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH). The wife, Dr Amina died as a pregnant woman. May Allah give the family the fortitude to bear the great yet irreplaceable loss and grant the couples an eternal life in paradise. Say a prayer for this committed couples whilst they rest in peace and share. It could have been either of us.”

A South African man simply identified as Saheed has made history after arriving in Islam’s holiest city, Mecca, on foot.
Saheed reportedly started his journey to the holy land from Cape Town in South Africa on August 30th, 2018. He walked through Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan, Egypt, and Palestine, where the COVID-19 border lockdown forced him to pause his journey.
According to him, he stayed in Palestine for a year and eight months while waiting for the border to be opened, and when that was done, he continued his journey.

A Nigerian lady, Josephine Muyiwa-Afolabi, who gave birth after waiting for 15 years, has recounted how they were mocked by friends.
Josephine and her husband, Pastor Emmanuel Muyiwa-Afolabi, welcomed their first child in June of 2022.
Taking to Facebook following the birth of their daughter, the career coach detailed her journey from her wedding to years of waiting, lies, mockery that she and her husband suffered.
In a lengthy post on her page recently, she recalled how two women gossiped about her in church, saying that she must lived a very promiscuous life in school and had several abortions.
Her post reads,
“When we said “I do” on October 20, 2007, little did we know the kind of journey we were about to embark on. We had envisaged welcoming our bundle of joy within the first year,”
But like a silly joke, days started running into weeks, weeks into months and months into unbelievable years.
Years full of ceaseless monthly flows; of continued red-coloured disappointment. Of staying clear of anti-malarials to avoid hurting a supposed pregnancy that didn’t even exist.
Of unexplained excruciating pains which lasted for 14 days a month, Leading my husbandman to pray at some point saying: “Lord, even if you will not give us children, heal my wife from this endless pain”
What about mockery and dangerous lies from those we assumed were the closest to us? Same people who pretended to be praying for us while in reality, were rejoicing in secret about our situation, using our pain as news items, mocking us for always being on medications….hmmnnn
But right at the height of the mockery, Oh Lord, you arose and made good your promise unto us. At the most unexpected time, You shut the mouth of the enemy and the mockers!
After 15 years of what seemed like a never-ending journey of childlessness, You have proven that you sure have a track record of keeping your words. Olorun agbaye o, you’re mighty!
After endless visits to over a decade hospitals with several failed procedures, Oh Lord God, you stepped in, in your own time and you’ve made it beautiful.
After I totally gave up and deleted every plan for children from my plans last year May, you Oh Lord decided to show up and remind me that your promises unto me are yea and amen!
And for everyone who has asked us: “where is your God?”, You oh Lord has answered them by yourself!

Narrating further, she wrote,
“I was at work and a colleague complained about how her domestic staff was getting fatter by the day and how she suspected that the girl must be pregnant.
“I chipped in: “she might be getting fat because you’re feeding her well and she has peace of mind; weight gain is not the only symptom of pregnancy and doesn’t have to be a result of pregnancy.”
And my colleague responded: “Josephine, you should have at least let experienced people talk.”
What was my reaction? I felt like the ground should open up and sw@llow me. Once she realized how embarrassed I felt, she quickly apologized, saying: “sorry, I didn’t mean it that way.”
“Well, the deed was already done and till I left that particular office, I deliberately avoided every and any conversation related to pregnancy, child bearing, etc.
#Lesson. Sometimes, you may mean no harm but know this: people who are trying to conceive are extremely sensitive to words and actions that alienate them or make them feel incapable.
The fact that someone is yet to have children does not imply that they are in total oblivion about pregnancy, child bearing or child care, just the same way it’ll be erroneous to assume that an unmarried person is clueless about marriage matters. Let’s be more considerate and kinder in our choice of words.
About seven years into our marriage, Sunday service had just ended and as the usual practice was, my husbandman had to attend the post-service Pastors’ meeting holding in the Senior Pastor’s office. I sat in the church auditorium waiting for him.
Then two ladies walked past and stood some distance away. It appeared like they were waiting to see the Senior pastor.
One of them then asked the other, stylishly pointing in my direction: “who is this woman?”
That’s Pastor Afolabi’s wife.”, the other responded. “Which Pastor Afolabi? She queried further.
All the while, I didn’t look up and as such, neither of the ladies were aware I could hear them.
“How many Pastor Afolabis do we have here? that cute pastor naa.”
“You mean he’s married? Wow! I didn’t know.”
“Yes, he’s married but it’s like they don’t have children”
And the other responded: “na wa o. This thing is very common with young ladies of nowadays. They’ll live very promiscuous lives in secondary school and university, have several abortions and end up looking for a pastor to marry and the pastor will start suffering and praying for them to have children without having a clue about the wife’s past.”
My reaction? I moved farther away from them as I didn’t want to hear any more rubb1sh. I know myself, my husbandman knows me too well and my God knows me better than anyone else does.
#Lesson Whoever told anyone that women trying to conceive must have been promiscuous at some point in their lives? And why would anyone assume that having children is a reward for chastity such that once you don’t have, it is assumed you lived a deviant life?
Look, there are several people who had multiple sexual partners as singles and yet had no issues with having children after wedding. In the same vein are several couples who though remained chaste all through their single years but had to deal with infertility.
While I’m a strong crusader for no premarital sex, I understand that virginity and chastity are no guarantees for fertility. So next time you see a couple who are trying to conceive, don’t be quick to draw conclusions that you know nothing about.
A cheating wife was forced to carry her husband on her shoulders and parade him through the streets after she was caught having an affair.
The incident is reported to have taken place in Borpadaw Village, India on July 3, 2022.
According to the report, the woman went missing for seven days and her husband and in-laws searched for her all through the week, to no avail.
Her husband then decided to file a missing person’s report and that’s when a member of the public came forward and told officials that the woman was residing at her boyfriend’s house.
It’s alleged the unidentified woman’s husband beat her, pulled her hair and slammed her on the ground after finding out about the affair.
The woman was then made to carry her husband through town. She can be seen holding her husband on her shoulders as she walks down the street, surrounded by locals.
According to reports, it is claimed that the husband proceeded to showcase her throughout their village, while hanging shoes from her neck, in the grim scenes.
Currently, nine people have been arrested for the incident and she has been sent to her childhood home.
